Profile bio

About Nancy Bird

My experiences as a youth counselor, small town newspaper journalist, museum curator, community college instructor and small town politician provided training for my longest career position (22 years) as administrator for a science and education non-profit. In December 2011, I resigned as the President/CEO, at the PWS Science Center (www.pwssc.org ). The Science Center was established in 1989 just after the Exxon Valdez oil spill. It is now leading a major, long-term investigation on Pacific herring, a keystone species that is one of only two species listed as non-recovering following the oil spill. The Center also is partnering to develop a web-based information system serving the Greater Prince William Sound region to provide visualized and up-to-date research information, links to data sources and data comparisons. After 22 years at the Center - including nine as the President, I needed to spend more time with my family.I rejoined the work force a year later, taking a part-time position at the Cordova Museum (www.cordovamuseum.org) where I worked for 4 years with a great team of people committed to preserving and sharing local history. I also was glad to help with some of the fundraising to complete the Cordova Center, a new, energy-efficient and beautiful facility which now houses the new museum, library and performing arts theater and auditorium! Administrative offices for the City of Cordova are also in this new building. From 2017 to 2020 I managed the Cordova Legislative Information Office where I was pleased to help Cordova residents connect with their legislators and track legislative bills. Specialties: Event organization, general management, extensive non-profit Board experience, and proposal preparation and editing.

Listed skills include Proposal Writing, Non Profits, Public Relations, Event Planning, and 1 others.
