Board member, general manager, and social justice leader with 35+ years' experience across consumer goods, technology, and nonprofit sectors. I began my career at P&G in Sales and in Brand and then spent 13 years in Silicon Valley. In my first technology job I was recruited to Metaphor Computer Systems, the big data company based on the graphical user interface that David Liddle created and spun out of Xerox PARC. In my last technology job I was recruited to Interval Research, David Liddle's disruptive consumer technology think tank funded by Paul Allen, to spin out a girls' technology company. Purple Moon was based on 3-1/2 years of ethnographic research on how girls and boys played. Our mission was to ensure that girls grew up technologically competitive to boys who were playing video games at the time. I co-founded and led girls' technology company Purple Moon until I sold the company to Mattel. For the past 20 years I have been in the social sector. I have worked in women's human rights for the Global Fund for Women (www.globalfundforwomen.org), African women's development as an Advisor and Board Member for African Women's Development Fund USA (www.awdfusa.org), urban poverty in Sub-Saharan Africa at Columbia University's Center for Sustainable Development (www.earthinstitute.columbia.edu), and research and advocacy for the Women's Refugee Commission (www.womensrefugeecommission.org). Most recently, I was in global social justice at Rise Up (www.riseuptogether.org) enabling leaders to innovate, often using technology for social impact.
