The City of Binghamton has 82 traffic signals, most of which were installed over 30 years ago. As a Traffic Engineer, I was responsible for the evaluation of traffic counts, accident data and other relevant data to determine if there are signals that are no longer warranted in accordance with the MUTCD. I worked with the City of Binghamton in determining signals for removal and facilitating removal in accordance with recommended practice. • Road Safety Assessments. Performance of roadway safety assessments on arterial streets in the region is part of Unified Planning Work Program of BMTS. It was my duty to review the safety audit requests submitted by local officials and perform the audits with my team. • Local Traffic Engineering Assistance. I was responsible to provide for professional traffic engineering assistance to local governments, including safety analyses, traffic operations studies, site development traffic impact review, and participation in the Binghamton Traffic Board and the Broome County Traffic Safety Board.• Local Arterial Signal Optimization Studies. Local municipal representatives submit their request for signal optimization to BMTS. My duty was to develop a new coordination plan using SYNCHRO and assist with implementation. Main Street in the City of Binghamton and North Street in the Village of Endicott are two local arterial that I have done signal optimization for.
