Use of scripts to create reports for clients and put them up on SFTP sites for client retrieval. I ran a daily script that gave me an overview of the servers, what jobs have failed, wait stalls per server, memory usage by Server by DB, mail system failures, and SQL Server Error Log major failures. We used various Apex products such as Diff and DataDiff. I also used the Idera toolset of free software, which are extremely useful. Whenever possible I use Idera's Diagnostic Manager for Server Monitoring, for its ability to maintain historical data. The reason I set up my own Monitoring database, is so that I could gather data over time, and compare results from different time periods. I have also tested out software for Change Auditing, Scripting across Multiple Servers, Server Monitoring, and other software I thought could be useful when it comes to making our servers more stable and our ability to be proactive about issues easier.

Developing jobs to monitor Production databases to develop a baseline for the different servers and databases.This was also done with a view of finding trouble spots and work on them from proactive perspective. Jobs could be created not only for monitoring but to run scripts to keep fragmentation low. Documented databases in Development, Staging and Production, making sure that scripts were run on the correct database and level. Deploy scripts as requested. Reviewed relevant database software to see if it would be of value. I reviewed software such as Diagnostic Manager, SQL Doc, Spotlight for SQL Server., Combine, and others.

Production database administrator in charge of monitoring and troubleshooting QA, UAT and Production SQL Server boxes. SQL Servers were a mix of 2005 and 2008 R2. For monitoring purposes I used a variety of tools both built into SQL and third party such as Quest Spotlight, Enterprise Edition, Idera Diagnostic Manager, Idera SQL Doctor, and Configio’s Ignite. I would troubleshoot server issues and come up with possible solutions, such as configuration changes, rebuild of indexes, update stats and recompile. I was also tasked with documenting the SQL Servers and comparing across servers to see if they all had the same configurations and noting differences to be addressed. I also documented databases and ran comparisons. I would deploy scripts as requested. Use of SharePoint 2010 to keep track of team activities, upload documents related to projects or general files, and manage team knowledgebase.

Brought in to improve performance of SQL 2005 databases, ranging from 5-57 GB in size, spread across several clustered servers. Used T-SQL to gather statistics/metrics on current performance of databases and queries. Reviewed all indexes and their usage (reads and writes) with an eye towards dropping some indexes, merging others (using 'include' columns) and adding any necessary new indexes. Reviewed the server, database and code configurations to make sure each was optimized for the current load/usage type.Revised tables that were not normalized so that additional tables were created and all the resulting tables were normalized optimally.

Database Administrator in charge of monitoring and deploying code/scripts to over 1900 field(branch) using SQL Server 2005 on Windows 2003 servers, with databases that ranged in size from 3 to 50 GB at each location. Code was deployed across servers simultaneously using SQL Farms Combine. Combine saved change history to a repository for review and allowed for the dynamic creations of server containers dependent upon the requirements of the deployment.Some of my duties included: daily monitoring via scripts against a repository to check on the server jobs (failed and long running), check for synchronization of tables across all servers, check unused indexes and review any DBCC CheckDB issues. Creation of scripts and jobs, using T-SQL to be run at the field servers to populate a central repository of server information about SQL configurations, IO data, query and cache information, unused indexes and other areas of interest. Created simple SSIS packages.I also worked with storage/hardware personnel to work on server builds/configurations and the placement of disk space and in placement of files in a SAN environment.I also taught/mentored field server operations personnel how to manage standard SQL DBA functions such as restores, queries and script distributions, how to tell minor SQL issues from major ones.Was given the responsibility to research, evaluate/test and do direct comparisons of SQL encryption solutions. I then did the final testing for the POC and evaluation testing for the preferred/recommended solution to meet HIPAA and HITECH requirements. The solution I suggested was the solution chosen and implemented.Use of repository information for the extraction of data concerning the impact of changes due to code/script deployments or actual changes to the SQL Server configuration such as memory.Some databases contained confidential health care information and required compliance with HIPAA. I was trained in HIPAA compliance.

Fulfill user requests for database backups, stored procedures, file transfers, data patches, create data dumps, add and transfer users and permissions (Windows and SQL Server) and decommission databases – archiving the data files and associated code, removing permissions and references and associated jobs. Administer SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Edition, test and production environment OLTP databases, in a healthcare medical billing/claims environment. Rebuild MS Access databases, back end structures/relationships and front end user interface programming (VBA)/design.
