Prior to becoming a CPA, Nancy worked for a decade as an operating room nurse at a major Metropolitan hospital in Boston. This experience of being a “direct care worker” proved to be formative in her decision to concentrate in the nonprofit industry. Her transition to accounting included working at the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Operational Services Division where she was one of the original co-authors of the Uniform Financial Report commonly known as the “UFR”. This report is required to be filed by all not for profit organizations who receive State funds in Massachusetts. A prominent industry thought-leader, Nancy teaches the Not for Profit Certificate Program at New York University where she has conducted training programs for professional industry staff seeking to enhance their capabilities relating to financial reporting and communicating in the not-for-profit sector.She has presented to industry organizations on a number of occasions on topics relating to the nonprofit sector, including board governance in a Sarbanes-Oxley world, consolidation and due diligence in mergers of nonprofits, and fraud and mismanagement avoidance.Over the years, Nancy has donated her time and expertise to charitable organizations as a volunteer, helping to run the Harlem School of Art and serving on Boards of charitiesGood sense of humor and lots of common sense.
