Through research, I identified a need for a disruptive approach to solving the unaddressed problem of women dying during childbirth due to iron deficiency anemia (IDA). IDA is the largest public health problem in the world, which is still inadequately addressed by governments and humanitarian organizations. I founded Fortify to create a market-based solution - fortifying the most commonly consumed, healthy foods with iron in developing countries where IDA is pervasive. Fortify is currently focused on tomato-based products, which contain high levels of Vitamin C, a critical nutrient to boost iron absorption, and are affordable and widely distributed to even rural areas. Our team targets food companies with existing distribution in those regions and guides them through the fortification process. Fortify collaborates with multiple in-country stakeholders to educate and build awareness around the benefits of iron fortified tomato products.Contributor to "Building Agenda for Business Contribution for the Japan 2020 Global Nutrition Summit."
