About Nancy M.

Strategic brand marketer and brand development leader with proven achievement in CPG, healthcare, health & wellness, beauty, cosmetics, home goods, hospitality, legal, fashion--and most recently: higher ed."Higher ed?" "Why on earth...?"I get that question a lot. It's a fair one. I'd love to say it was a mission-based* quest that drove me here. But that would basically be.....untrue.It was largely nostalgia. My father was one of the first to attend FDU on the GI bill after WWII. His father worked for BD (Becton-Dickinson, FDU's namesake, in creative no less). And, FDU was born in my hometown. It was a part of the community--friends' parents & neighbors worked there, and they hosted some great concerts (CSN, Ray Charles, Kinks, Byrds, Billy Joel, Springsteen...). Not that I saw them. I missed the "you're allowed to go" age threshold my sisters had reached (even though my folks sent me (age 12) to see Steve Miller w/my teenage sisters🤨). But I knew something cool was going on beyond the wrought iron fence at FDU.Fast-forward, opportunity knocked, pulled at the heartstrings, one chat led to another, and here I am.I hit higher ed at probably The. Worst. Time. in its history. Covid lockdown hit within 2 weeks of my start date, and if you've read anything about higher ed in the press, you know it's a tumultuous time. But it's also a time of massive opportunity. For customer-centricity, new value props, redefinition, rebranding--a long overdue 'transformation'--minus the surface-level b.s. that changes nothing. Whether it's early-stage start-ups, turnarounds, launches, or rebrands, it's the kind of work that motivates me because it's about possibility and potential. It's not the kind of work everyone has the stomach for, but I love it.And I still consult (non-compete)--reach out to connect.*Once you're here, the mission part does kinda pull you in.-----------------Brand Strategy | Brand Marketing | Creative Development | Omni-channel | Strategic Planning | Brand Development | Messaging | Brand Management | Content Strategy | Social Strategy | Verbal Identity | Naming | Positioning | Voice | Digital Marketing | Paid Media | Audience Development | User Experience | Website Development | Analytics | Data Analysis | Copy Direction | Copywriting | Content Development | Editorial | Marketing Communication | Digital Media | CTV/OTT | OOH | Radio | Segmented Marketing | Direct Mail | Advertising | P.O.S. | Creative Services | Budgeting | Organizational Design | Vendor Management | Contract Negotiation

Jan 2008 - Dec 2009

Creative + Content Marketing Consultant

Rutherford, New Jersey, Us

Transition year where I took on limited startup and small business consulting projects while focusing on my most important role of all: Mom to my 3 children. I'd been given the choice to stay with my company in a new role (same level & all), or take a package and leave. With so much of my career ahead of me, and 3 little ones at home, the choice was clear. I left, and I left smiling--so much so the SVP of HR actually told me to stop smiling so much. I had no 'landing pad', but I somehow knew all would be ok, and it was. Zero regrets.Professionally, it was a gift, as I realized how much I love consulting on new brands, product launches, and turnarounds. It's the frenzied but focused camaraderie of "startup mode" and working with incredibly smart and talented colleagues toward something amazing that I enjoy most. It was a pivotal year. I provided brand creative development, copy direction, verbal i.d. and content strategy for various CPG, home goods, hospitality, restaurant and legal clients.
