About Nancy Muller
Until retiring in December 2021, Nancy Muller served for eight years as the Director of the Lowcountry Graduate Center, a consortium of MUSC, the College of Charleston, and The Citadel offering programs of study at the graduate level for professional advancement. It was centrally located near Charleston International Airport for easy access to working professionals in Charleston-Berkeley-Dorchester counties. During this time, she was also a Visiting Associate Professor of Public Health at the College of Charleston in the School of Education, Health & Human Performance, where she taught the Structure of the U.S. Healthcare Delivery System and also Healthcare Marketing. Previously, Dr. Muller worked in patient advocacy and public health education for 13 years as Executive Director of the National Association For Continence (NAFC), whose national headquarters is located in Charleston, South Carolina. Prior to that, she worked for six years as a private consultant largely in healthcare, developing strategies and business plans for new program launches for such clients as the Mayo Clinic, Oregon Health Sciences University, and Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, among others. Previously, she was director of marketing for a medical device company. Dr. Muller accumulated 25 years of management experience, 15 years of which were with W. R. Grace & Co. including positions as vice president of international sales, director of marketing, and manager of corporate planning & financial analysis during which time she directed new product launches, strategic planning and business development, and organizational management including fund development. She graduated magna cum laude from Duke University and received her MBA from the University of Virginia's Darden School of Graduate Business Administration. She earned her PhD in health services research from Virginia Commonwealth University, completing her dissertation on the specialization of community hospitals as competitive strategies. She has lived abroad for five years in both The Netherlands and France and traveled extensively to over 40 countries on six continents. Throughout her adult lifetime, she has donated hundreds of hours of volunteer service to charities whose missions focus on maternal health, child development, and the education of youth.
