My tenure at The Dallas Morning News began as an editor on the national desk, during which time I was on the team that covered the 9/11 terrorist attacks and the launch of the Iraq War. The desk handled copy from bureaus on the West Coast and in Washington. I was the last national editor the paper had before the role was eliminated during a newsroom reorganization. After a year on the breaking news desk, I covered East Dallas as a reporter and then took over a metro editing position supervising reporters who covered Dallas Independent School District during the Mike Miles years, higher education, immigration, Downtown Dallas, Oak Cliff and general assignments. I was one of the editors on special sections for the opening of the Perot Museum of Nature and Science, the George W. Bush Presidential Center and the Children's Garden at the Dallas Arboretum.

My year at The Rocky included working on the team that covered the Columbine school shooting.

Jacksonville, Florida Area

I worked on the metro desk at the Times-Union and supervised the police and court reporters as well as those covering other news beats in Jacksonville. In my final year at the Times-Union, I was features editor tasked with giving the features section a harder news edge.

I started at the Star-Telegram as a cops reporter for the evening edition, getting to work at 5 a.m. and filing my first story by 7 a.m. I covered social services and AIDS before becoming an editor. I helped launch a group of neighborhood news sections before joining the state desk, where I handled our freelance correspondents in surrounding rural counties as well as copy from our Austin bureau and state reporters. I was on the team that handled covered of the Branch Davidian standoff.
