Department Of Neuroscience Erasmusmc

Research technician in the lab of Prof. dr. Y. Elgersma in the department of Neuroscience at the Erasmus MC in Rotterdam. The lab is studying the molecular and cellular basis of learning and memory formation. Central to the approach is the use of genetically engineered mice as a tool to dissect these mechanisms. The main interest of the lab is in hippocampal plasticity and hippocampus dependent learning, as well as in the mechanisms underlying intellectual disabilities. Mutation-induced changes are analyzed at the biochemical, cellular and behavioral level. By analyzing the mutant mice at all these levels we hope to understand the specific function of these genes and proteins in synaptic plasticity, and to get insight in the molecular mechanisms underlying learning and memory. This knowledge is essential to develop treatments for patients with (genetic) diseases that affect normal brain function. To translate our findings to the patients, we are part of the ENCORE expertise center for neuro-developmental disorders, for which Ype Elgersma is the scientific director. The genes and proteins that we focus on are CaMKII, UBE3A and proteins belonging to the RAS-ERK-MTOR signaling pathway. The associated diseases are Angelman Syndrome, Neurofibromatosis (NF1), Noonan syndrome, Costello syndrome, Cowden disease and Tuberous Sclerosis (TSC). I am highly experienced in the following techniques, isolation and culturing of hippocampal and cortical neurons from rat and mouse, various molecular biology and protein techniques, cell culture, generating knock out mice via blastocyst injections, various behavioral experiments, confocal microscopy, EEG recording surgery and histological techniques. As a technician I also have obtained a broad experience in accompanying and supporting internship students and PhD students.

Department Of Neuroscience Hoogenraad Lab

Research technician in the lab of Dr. C.C. Hoogenraad (currently Prof. dr. of the department of Cell Biology of Utrecht University) in the department of Neuroscience at the Erasmus MC in Rotterdam. The lab was studying how intracellular protein trafficking underlies neuronal development and function. For this we used genetics, biochemistry, molecular, and cellular biology approaches to study neuronal development and functioning, with particular emphasis on the areas of microtubule cytoskeleton, protein trafficking and synaptic mechanisms.

Department Of Celbiology Galjart Lab

Research technician in the department of Cell Biology at the Erasmus MC in Rotterdam. I was working on the subject of microtubule dynamics and cellular organization in the lab of Dr. N.J. Galjart.
