I was proud to be part of a team providing exceptional service at Riverbend of Kohler, located in the historic Walter Kohler Sr. mansion on Lower Falls Road. Fabulous setting. Gracious members and guests. Inspiring co-workers. Any job can be a hospitality job; you can delight the customer no matter what you do. Still, It was great to learn from experts in a five-star establishment.

Interviewed newsmakers from the greater Sheboygan area and around the state for a public affairs program on cable access TV and available online. Topics included Sheboygan's new innovation district, Active8, anti-poverty food sharing programs, and local history.

Coordinated messaging, storytelling, and social media campaigns for Lakeshore Natural Resource Partnership, conservation umbrella group; planned fundraising strategies and events; worked with volunteer groups to share their stories with the general public.

As director of Bryant & Stratton College's Online High School program, I helped adults who left high school early retrieve what they lost so they could start realizing their dreams. Together, we built a path for achieving a high school diploma and, ideally, a college degree. I taught a mix of digital and live required courses and elective. Previously I taught information literacy at both the BSC Bayshore and downtown campuses, and also coordinated testing.

Provided excellent customer service for a friendly, small-town hotel that served tourists, business and special event clients. Processed reservations, billing, and credit card payments. The lobby was infused with Road America photographs and artwork because RA brings in a good portion of the hotel's summer business.

Served as tour guide for visitors to the historic Wade House, an 1860s stagecoach inn built to serve traffic along the plank road that connected Fond du Lac and Sheboygan. The tour tells the story of frontier entrepreneur Sylvanus Wade and his family during the Civil War years. I wore an authentic 1850s costume (no zippers or snaps!) and led people through the inn's public rooms and private quarters. I also fed the chickens and sheep at the end of each day.

Taught basic reference principles and strategies to library employees who were working for public librarian certification credentials.

Oversaw campaigns to promote the services of the SCVC to area non-profit agencies, businesses, schools, and the general public; assisted in writing presentation and training materials; played a key role in event planning and execution; wrote and edited print and video marketing materials; photographed and recorded events for publication.

This was a grassroots project launched by local librarians, educators and arts enthusiasts with the goal of hosting a two-day children's book festival in October 2010. I assisted in writing a $10,000 Wisconsin Humanities Council grant to fund appearances by nationally known authors and illustrators. The grant was approved in June 2010. The festival has grown every year and is now an annual event.

* Executed daily operations including facility management, budget planning, staff supervision, and public relations. 2008 budget was $257,000.* Oversaw building maintenance, including a $15,000 bathroom remodeling project, $12,000 HUAC installation, $4,000 energy efficient lighting, and $4,000 for technology updates. * Created a local history center (the Edwin J. Majkrzak Historical Research Center) of local photographs, original documents, and other archival material; expanded genealogy collection and programming.* Developed KPL's first digital collection, "Big Streets in a Little City" with LSTA funds. * Worked with library supporters and advocates to form KPL's first ever Friends group.* Assisted patrons of all ages in the use of the OPAC, reference sources, and other digital and print materials.* Trained and managed 11 adult and teen employees (FTE 4.8).* Initiated new YA programming, including a first ever teen film festival, video gaming (DDR, Guitar Hero, Wii Sports, etc.) and co-sponsored "Battle of the Boxes" tournament in partnership with MCLS colleagues.* Worked with MCLS colleagues to successfully switch to a different integrated software program (SirsiDynix), a three-year project that included transferring all online catalog data, arranging for staff training, and helping patrons adjust to the changes.* Launched, administered and taught quarterly computer literacy workshops.* Regularly spoke to civic groups and other organizations about library services, book-related topics, technology, or cultural issues. * Coordinated - in partnership with the board, staff and system staff - strategic planning efforts. Worked with municipal officials, community leaders and other stakeholders to develop long-range plans for services, community outreach, technology and funding. * Initiated a 20-year facility needs assessment process to explore space and service needs.* Completely rewrote the KPL policy manual and personnel manuals.

Taught Freshman/Sophomore English, creative writing and mass media and served as half-time tutor for emotionally disturbed students. I also coached the debate team.

Covered local and state government, education, business, economic development and community activities. Interviewed public officials community leaders and others. Wrote stories and took photos for publication in an afternoon daily newpaper.

Taught beginning English to Japanese natives at LC's Tokyo campus.

Front page design and pagination, assigned stories, took and developed photos (back when we still used film) and covered state politics, including the Legislative and executive office beats.

Managed a mid-size city radio news department. Covered crime, court and municipal government beats, conducted interviews with news makers, edited audio, and produced and anchored two newscasts an hour. It was essentially a one-woman operation, although I was occasionally able to hire and supervise part-time stringers.
