Nanma Gireesh is a Civil - Translational Engineer and co-founder of an interdisciplinary firm called 'NestAbide',an interdisciplinary design and engineering firm in the water sector recognized by Kerala Startup Mission and Startup India, Government of India. The firm, based in India, focuses on translational (interdisciplinary action-based) research, water conservation, flood - resilient and flood - resistant eco-technologies including Amphibious & floating buildings, Floating Wetlands Treatment System and Flood Modelling & Simulation of Rivers. The engineer cum entrepreneur is also a PhD researcher at TU Delft, Netherlands and has about 5 years of experience in research, innovation, construction, and entrepreneurial management in the water sector. Driven self-starter and reliable person who is passionate about resilience, adaptation, and sustainable development. Her interests include wetlands rejuvenation using nature-based solutions, flood technologies like amphibious and floating buildings, and intersectional multi-disciplinary research of design, engineering and legal-policy governance on flood resilience. In 2022, Nanma and Ben were recognized by Forbes Asia (30 under the age of 30) in the sector - Industry, Manufacturing, and Energy for implementing India's first amphibious building prototype called 'Amphi Nest'. She represented India at the Global Amphibious Policy Symposium, held in Poland. She was featured by BBC UK for Climate Podcast, Global Centre on Adaptation in the Netherlands, University of Pennsylvania of USA, and Knowledge Exchange in Bangkok, Thailand. She has worked on projects funded by the National Research Council of Canada in association with the University of Waterloo. Nanma is well-connected and working with several amphibious-floating pioneers around the world. Currently, she and her team are also working to build amphibious homes for people living in flood-prone areas in Kerala, supported by the Government of Kerala through KDISC (Kerala Development Innovation and Strategic Council). Nanma was also a TEDx speaker in 2019 and has addressed over 6000 students and professionals since. To keep her balanced, she also practices Kerala Mural Painting and Indian semi-classical dance.
