About Naomi Strohschein
My love of puzzles and thirst for efficiency drive my accounting career. During the March-April 2020 lockdown, I completed every puzzle I owned, and all I could borrow from friends and family to keep myself occupied. I love to solve problems, and getting everything lined up correctly at the end of a fiscal period makes me warm and happy. I once had a boss who, when I asked her for guidance on how to fill out a form, would almost always shrug and say, "See how we did it last year and figure it out!" I have used that tactic to successfully master a multitude of tax and regulatory forms and processes. “Figure it out!” is practically my motto now. I've been described by supervisors as dependable and trustworthy. After 15 years of experience in various Human Resources, accounting, and compliance roles, I’m currently working, ever so slowly, toward completing my Bachelor’s degree in Accounting with the goal of graduating in Fall 2024. While I prefer to work in the background, I am quick to step in when a broken or inefficient process needs fixing. Sometimes that even includes things like running the Secret Santa game or decorating the office for Autumn. After all, Accountants may not be known for having exuberant personalities, but at least we aren’t Actuaries!

Among other tasks, I work with our Third Party Administrators to process their detailed reports into summary journal entries monthly, and I review and reconcile our real estate assets quarterly. But my favorite task is compiling the quarterly financial statement - the Blue Book. With primary responsibility for several of the schedules and interrogatories, I find this project to be exhilarating and a fantastic bonding experience for the Accounting Department.

We bought and sold some Life Insurance companies which allowed me to learn about industry-specific taxes and regulations. I was responsible for weekly calculation and payment of sales agent commissions, and worked closely with our Human Resources Manager for successful processing and tracking of various payroll duties.
