In my PhD project, I am comparing the values and procedures of current smart city technology to the ways in which civil society organizations develop similar technologies. I am specifically interested in how civil society-led technical development contributes to social and environmental goals.

I received an EU grant to develop an application to reduce household food waste. I conducted user interviews and workshops to develop an attractive concept. We are now trying out the app with a small number of users.

• Group proposal for socially-responsible tourism in Brazil as a part of a course on social entrepreneurship. • Writing a master’s thesis on the quality of public participation in living labs. • Research proposal for a community-based urban design project in Lagos, Nigeria.• Research proposal for an inter disciplinary action research project for local food in Stockholm.• Designed as a group a children’s program for an island, at XSkool, a course for social design.Activities outside of Master’s Program:• Designed a website mock-up for democratic decision making at a Social Hack Weekend.• Attended Creative Problem Solving, a workshop at the Stockholm School of Entrepreneurship.• Developed a reuse and leasing concept for Ikea at a case competition in Copenhagen. • Served as a volunteer presenter for the Living Building Challenge. • Organized an urban gardening workshop for a student group during Earth Week. • Organized the retrieval of used wood for an urban gardening project on a rooftop in Stockholm.

Researched the viability of an energy efficiency and water remediation technology for a client. Conducted internet-based as well as first-person interviews. Managed a deconstruction project of a large municipal building. Included large sales, individual sales, and deconstruction of valuable materials. Evaluated more than five conferences for their greenhouse gas emissions from the building and transportation. Managed the evaluation of a business for its greenhouse gas emissions. Managed the construction credits for a large LEED project. Visited the project site to evaluate compliance with indoor air quality credits and pollution prevention credits. Collected documentation for Materials and Resources credits.

• Managed multiple priorities in a fast-paced, high pressure atmosphere.• Completed new order processing, sent out customer correspondence, and supported administrative needs of the design department.• Requested professional services and documents, submitted and solved problems with state documents, accompanied building inspectors, communicated with plan approval and state agencies. • Applied for and maintained state manufacturing licenses.• Answered telephones, transferred calls, and provided general information about the company.• This was a short term position to cover someone's maternity leave.

• Researched high performance windows, classic and alternative framing, super insulating techniques, finishing materials, appliances, and building wrap options. • Recorded major design changes and edited plans in AutoCAD per architect’s and engineer’s directions. • Created budget, material specifications, and timeline. • Calculated possible LEED for Homes points and supported the LEED for Homes certification process.

• Supported USGBC state organizations by researching and writing a report on the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act's opportunities for green building.• Used primary and secondary resources to research and write a report on organizational restructuring for USGBC groups in Ohio.

• Assisted in researching materials for a LEED New Construction project.• Wrote reports on topics including gray water systems, energy monitoring, and energy efficient windows.
