Develop programs related to materials performance in oil and gas, nuclear waste, and other materials-related applications, risk management of these systems, and sensor system reliability.Strategic planning and execution of long-term research and development programs in corporate-wide materials and energy-related interests. Coordinate research programs with universities in strategic areas. Research emphases include carbon dioxide reduction technologies, energy harvesting, wireless networked sensors and risk modeling, and biofuel transportation/production.

Managed programs related to high level nuclear waste storage, processing, and disposal, gas pipeline integrity, oil and gas production materials, refinery equipment corrosion, Department of Defense corrosion prevention and control, and NASA remote detection of chemicals.

Involved in Division-wide strategic planning and in developing business overseas, especially Japan and China. Developed a major, multi-year corrosion prevention and control (CPAC) program support activity for the U.S. Marine Corps. This involved coordination of different organizations, staff development, and technology transfer.Developed and managed many federal and joint industry research programs for Department of Defense, NASA, chemical process industry, oil and gas production and refining, and Department of Transportation.

Reporting to a Vice President of SwRI, developed a broad range of new research funding combining various disciplines and operating divisions of SwRI. Increased the business development activities. Developed strategic plan for the Division. Managed a large program to develop safety assessment of Hanford radioactive tank waste remediation process. Managed a large team developing performance assessment models for high-level radioactive waste containers for the NRC related to Yucca mountain project.Actively involved in a number of research programs as a technical contributor, including high level nuclear waste management, NIST Advanced Technology Program on localized corrosion modeling, Pipeline Research Council International programs on assessment of corrosion of natural gas pipelines, and various programs for oil and gas industry. Led the development and application of a reactive-transport model for disbonded coatings and Raman studies of a wide range of corroding systems.

Carried out numerous alloy development and scale-up programs, including several Ni-base alloys and duplex stainless steels. Obtained three patents.Extensive technical interactions with customers in the chemical process, oil and gas, marine, and pollution control industries. Activities included applications development, field testing, failure analysis, and telephone and on-site consultation. Provided extensive technical assistance to manufacturing divisions.Planned, performed, and managed research programs. As a manager, was responsible for budgeting and staffing.
