My role at Optima Health involves a mixture of case management (telephone and face to face assessments), DSE assessments and specific periodic medicals across a range of contracts ranging from public sector workers, private sector workers and the rail industry.

I am currently the appointed nurse for one of our company's biggest clients who deal with the exterior automotive industry, along with smaller companies including chrome plating businesses, colleges and further automotive firms.On a day-to-day basis I am responsible for organising the companies occupational health programme bymanaging my own dairy of employees so that they are seen on a regular basis to meet HSE guidelines foroccupational health surveillance. The largest company I am the occupational health nurse for has around 1000 employees across 4 sites that I am responsible for, alongside an additional 6 companies I regularly visit. I am able to carry out the full occupational health remit, which includes:• Respiratory checks using spirometry• Audiometry testing• Pre-employment medicals/exit medicals• Executive medicals (which include taking bloods and ECG's)• Hand Arm Vibration• Chrome checks• Management referrals/ Case management• Sickness absence management• Travel health and vaccination clinics• Report writing• Telephone interviews• Health and Wellbeing presentations/ days• Training new staff in how to carry out this testing to a strict criteria

Here, I worked on the busy Cardiology ward, where I have refined and developed my skills to become a diligent and experienced staff nurse. Having worked here since qualifying I have proven my capability as a senior nurse by often being appointed in charge of the ward, taking the responsibility of the day to day running of my team and patient organisation. I regularly manage sensitive concerns from patients and relatives, these must be handled with absolute confidence, outlining my trustworthiness and dedication. In conjunction with my staff nurse role, I am also a mentor for the student nurses on the ward. This demands excellent teaching skills alongside a solid knowledge base and effective communication skills.
