LEARN provides Early Grade Reading (EGR) Technical Assistance to several “On-Demand States’’ across Nigeria, according to their specific needs toward improving reading outcomes in Primary 1 and 2. Accordingly, as OD Services Advisor I coordinate and help match state needs based on their MOUs with technical expertise internal and external to the LEARN project and support the contracting and larger coordination necessary for successful technical service delivery.

Specifically, the position requires that I develop/review learning materials, participate in the field-based implementation of activities in the Non-Formal Learning Centres and Adolescent Girls' Learning Centres, and supporting the coaching and mentoring of learning facilitators.

In addition to its mandates of strengthening government systems for improvement in basic education delivery and reading outcomes in Bauchi and Sokoto states, Northern Education Initiative (NEI) Plus was asked by its funder (USAID) to support seven states to effectively achieve their Better Education Service Delivery for All (BESDA) goals and timelines. My mandate was to work with Bauchi and Sokoto states to help them review the work plans and develop strategies that would help them achieve their BESDA goals in a timely and efficient manner.

Carried out a review of Non-Formal Education (NFE) policy for Achieving Education in Northeast Nigeria (AENN) , a USAID-funded project being implemented in Borno and Yobe states. One output of the consultancy was an annotated bibliography of relevant national and state-level policy documents in the NFE sector. The second was a report of the policy landscape developed from a review of existing policies and interviews with major stakeholders active in the NFE sector in the two states.

Provided the relevant contextual background and contacts on the basic education sector in Jigawa, Kaduna, and Katsina states to FHI360's. Identified, orchestrated and attended meetings with government officials, development partners, and civil society organisations active in the basic education sector in the three states. I identified local recruitment opportunities, and provided strategic inputs based on knowledge of the local context, structures, and policy documents.

Led the in-service certification of teachers, school support officers, and master trainers involved in RANA (Reading & Numeracy Activity) project in Katsina & Zamfara states. I built on the processes, findings and recommendations of a prioro scoping activity on RANA certification and engaged state and federal institutions relevant to the certification process. Together, we drew up timelines, developed, piloted, and administered asessment instruments that led to the selection and in-service certification of qualified teachers.

Getting Almajirai to benefit from a DFID-Sponsored programme on skills development for youths in Northern Nigeria through:Mobilising & Working with religious teachers/owners of Quranic schools to map existing schools, Almajirai, and skills training opportunities for them in Kaduna, Kano, & Katsina States Liaising with Ministries, Departments, & Agencies that are involved with Almajirai & Quranic Schools in the three states Developing strategies and designing interventions for the teaching of Skills to Almajirai and in Quranic schools in the three states

Gusau, Nigeria.

I teach courses in Research Methodology, Teaching Methodology, Micro-Teaching, and Curriculum Studies. FCET Gusau is the only public female-only tertiary teacher education institution in Nigeria. The college is symbolic of Nigeria's version of 'affirmative action' in the area of female participation in technology education. I have the privilege of being part of this history.

Co-ordinated the teaching of general education courses to all students enrolled in Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) programme of the college. This involved supervising the operations of 5 departments in the School of Education.

Sokoto, Nigeria

An assessment of quality assurance practices in NEI supported schools in Sokoto state, Nigeria. This included the development, testing, and administration of research instruments for collecting data from a sample of schools, and personnel involved in quality assurance in the state. The outcome was a report submitted to Sokoto office of USAID Nigeria.

Co-ordinated remedial and preliminary programmes designed for students with deficient entry qualifications into regular programmes offered in the college.
