Offshore cage operation in Panama producing Cobia, Pompano, and Red Drum

Sebastian, Florida – base of operations for Dyer Aqua LLCDevelopment of marine cage sites for production of Pompano, Cobia, Red Drum, and other marine foodfish species produced at Dyer’s main hatchery in Sebastian. Planning for future projects, both in offshore cage systems and in land-based recirculating systems.PanamaEvaluated sites on the Caribbean coast for marine cage farming. Selected and permitted a 500 hectare site with potential for forty-eight 3000 cubic meter cages. Identified and set up a location for a land base site. Constructed HDPE nursery cages (10m square) and growout cages (70m circumference) utilizing local labor. Constructed and deployed concrete cage anchors. Installed a 12 cage grid mooring system for the growout cages. Sourced and purchased equipment for operations: barges, tugboat, workboats, etc. Developed protocols for fingerling transfers, net changes, harvest, etc. Trained local personnel in running of the operation. Negotiated sales of fish, contracts for packing and shipping of fish to the US, and coordinated shipping logistics.Spanish Wells, the Bahamas. Converted existing marine cage site to production of Pompano and Cobia. Managed the construction of an intensive indoor hatchery. Developed and implemented HACCP plan for the overall operation to comply with export regulations. Puerto RicoManaged installation of new saltwater intake line and various upgrades of partial-recirc systems at the C-Quest marine ornamental production facility, while it was under lease to Dyer Aqua LLC.

Management of all aspects involved in the operation of a commercial Red Drum farming facility. Responsible for production from hatchery to final harvest in indoor recirculating systems and pond systems. Yearly hatchery production was sustained at ~ 40 million eggs. Fingerling production was kept at 1 million to 1.5 million fingerling per year. Worked with recirculating systems ranging from 50,000 to 100,000 gallons, in which production was taken up to 0.5 lb/gallon. Final growout consisted of 110 acres of ponds, in which production was sustained at 550,000 to 700,000 pounds per year.

Development of protocol for raceway production of S. ocellatus. Larval rearing and growout of Litopenaeus vannamei, Micropogonias undulatus, Ocyurus chrysurus, Atractoscion nobilis. Hormonal manipulation. Mass production of several species of microalgae. Design and performance of nutritional studies with L. vannamei, S. ocellatus. Biochemical analyses (Kjeldhal analysis, lipid extraction, chromic oxide determination). Water quality analyses.
