I chose to pursue an advisor role within the financial services because it aligned with my personal interests and goal of not being strictly salary-based. I was able to develop a strong working knowledge around whole life, term life, and universal life insurance products, as well as annuities. We brokered mutual funds within various types of accounts, both retirement and voluntary.Being a sales and client-facing role, this was my first exposure to "eating what you kill". In this environment, I consistently had to leap outside of my comfort zone in order to progress and the role was my first time essentially building a business brick by brick. I learned how to network, prospect effectively, and maintain a sales pipeline. I made several mistakes along the way, but each of them helped me craft a more targeted marketing approach which led to my qualifying for the performance-based New Representative conference in 2019.The most notable experiences were learning to manage a CRM, hosting public speaking seminars, and everyone's favorite - cold calling.
