Using my own experiences and all that I have learned so far to connect with the experts and reach out to those in need of social-legal-economic support and guidance. Though the special focus is empowerment of women, children and the marginalised, the effort is towards a holistic approach to social development.

This is an online news portal that aims at promoting old school journalism - reporting things as they are without colour or prejudice. The objective is not just to raise issues but also help find solutions. Developmental journalism is what we do. We provide information, promote education and bring entertainment, all with a soul.

Programme heads at DD Kolkata and my seniors in the field egged me to take up this assignment despite my reluctance to be in front of the camera. I am slowly turning a pro at anchoring as well as writing for various shows on environment, culture and social issues in Urdu, Bengali and English.

Adding to my chequered professional repertoire, so to speak, is my first full time foray with a regional language daily. While it is quite challenging to work with the lifestyle and entertainment supplement of the Bengali daily (Ananda Plus), I must say the experience so far has been rewarding and extremely enriching as well. What makes things easier is the fact that I had been a freelancer with the supplement while I was studying law.

Working with the Times of India Metro Supplement on fashion, lifestyle and entertainment. It is both fun and challenging to work in this segment which to some might not seem to be serious journalism. But this is serious work, and serious entertainment.

MPBAC has been involved with educating street children and the underprivileged for the last 25 years. At present we are also providing free computer training to 150 underprivileged children besides nursery teachers training for those who have completed their Plus 2.

The magazine is an 'autoventuring guide around the city'. It highlights little known facts about the city and its people. It presents the history behind the marvellous structures and heritage sites of this city in a lucid manner. The weekend getaway section is one of the best guides for a self drive destination around the city. Unfortunately prior commitments limited my stint here to only a few months but it was fun working with the team that is extremenly small but very competent.

My initiation to professional journalism here shaped the course of my future journey. I was part of the features section that covered as diverse sections as law, health, adventure sports, education, children's supplement, politics, fashion and films. My baby steps here propelled me to try my hand at as diverse subjects as possible and be able walk steadily toward the next project.

Starting my professional career as a teacher for class IX and X in an Urdu medium school was probably the best thing I did. I saw how eager the young girls are to learn English, so much so that they would come to attend extra classes that I would take on the weekends to help them.
