Ignition Spring is a Portland, Oregon based design consultancy focused on new product design, product development, sourcing, and innovation with expertise in soft goods (bags) and carry accessories.

Lead global bag product design & development for multiple categories of bags including men's athletic training, basketball, and athlete promo. Previous experience includes design and product development of bags for the Jordan brand, NSW (Nike sportswear), women’s training, global football (soccer), and tennis.Extensive experience in product design and development of backpacks, duffels, gym sacks, shoulder bags, luggage and roller bags, totes and messengers.

Created and taught “Principles of Bag Design” as part of "Art Center At Night" program. This was a beginner's introduction to the design and specification process as it pertains to the design of bags. Topics covered included developing a story and a compelling reason for the product to exist, learning about materials and trims, as well as making mock up to understand general bag construction. The purpose of this class was to help students create drawing packages that a sample maker or factory could interpret.

While staff product designer / bag designer for a leading supplier of mobile computing carrying cases and accessories, I brought innovation, excitement and energy to a category of otherwise conservative black boxy business bags. Experience in the design of soft goods such as laptop bags / business cases, backpacks, messengers, camera bags, soft-sided coolers, CD wallets, travel bags, luggage, telescope cases, and golf bags.Experience in the design of hard goods including various mobile computing peripherals that were common in the early 2000's: business card readers, fingerprint scanner, USB drives. Supported sales teams by creating visually compelling presentations of multiple design directions from which buyers can decide. Understood the brand direction of major computer manufacturers and retailers (Sony, Dell, Toshiba, IBM, Gateway, HP, Walmart, Target) in order to provide OEM design solutions for their brands.Collaborated closely with product managers and factory liaisons to ensure design integrity.

Learned to anticipate and meet the needs of shoppers in a fast paced retail apparel environment. If a customer came in looking for a pair of khakis for a job interview, I would give them a belt to try on with it as well. They like the pants and the belt? ...I would throw a shirt or two over to them while they were in the fitting room. As everything comes in seasonal colors I'd make sure to suggest socks from the same season that match the pants perfectly. This was the 90's and the standard was to match the socks to the pants.Having this extensive retail experience in the early formative years of my career gave me critical insight on how consumers shop and think as well as providing an opportunity to constantly and repeatedly present, improvise and sell.
