I am a driven and creative educator who firmly believes that education can be used as tool, not just for subject-specific progression, but to support the personal, social and emotional development of every learner. I adopt an inclusive approach to teaching, that aims to put the learner at the centre of their journey.     I work for Weston College as a Quality Manager for nine different Prison Education teams across the Southwest of England. The role gives me the opportunity to provide support to management and teaching staff at our sites, developing the delivery of rich programmes of education for learners in prison.Prison educators work with some of the most stigmatised, misrepresented and misunderstood people in our society. Many of our learners have come from complex backgrounds. They have lived in poverty, experienced trauma, been failed by the school system, who have been unable to diagnose and provide support for learning difficulties. These people have engaged in criminal activity and now have to live with the label of criminal, prisoner or ex-offender. Prison education is about hope and opportunity. It’s about nurturing people’s talents and strengths. It’s about finding spaces for learning, development and progression within the challenging prison environment. Prison education is about supporting some of the most vulnerable people in our communities to live happy, healthy and successful lives and to desist from crime.Within my role I am responsible for ensuring a robust quality assurance system is in place across our Prison Education provisions. I carry out auditing and reporting on curriculum areas and processes, in order to make clear recommendations and provide developmental support ensure high-quality teaching. I am responsible for delivering CPD and a rich teacher training programme.

    I was a Music and Creative Arts Lecturer at HMP/YOI Portland for four years. I delivered a non-accredited course, based around personal, social and emotional development (PSED). The course allowed learners with any level of experience and functional skills to 'learn music' and 'learn through music' simultaneously. The programme ran for four weeks with groups of six learners and two peer mentors, who are people in prison that assist with or lead learning activities. During the course, learners were encouraged to self-select the music-based activities they wanted to engage in. The learners set individualised targets and monitored both their subject-specific progress and wider skills development in their reflective journals. They could participate in instrumental learning, digital music production, song-writing, performance or recording.

    Superpeople run projects and create film to showcase how disabled and non-disabled people can work together to create social change.Many of our projects centre around supporting disabled and neurodiverse people into employment. We do this by creating self-promotion tools and products for people to use to approach employers. In the past we had done this by producing video CVs. The video CVs we made were an innovative way to visually illustrate an individual's character, including their education and employment history, along with their skills and interests. They also supported people to showcase that disability or difference is an important part of who somebody is and can be an asset to an employer.More recently we started The Achieve Project, a mutual aid project in collaboration with Disability Rights UK (DRUK) and Arts University Bournemouth (AUB). During our first pilot we supported 14 young people with additional needs with their search for employment, by connecting them with Graphic Design Students from AUB. The AUB students were tasked with creating innovative self-promotion products for the young people to use to apply for work.As well as breaking down barriers to employment and building the confidence of the young people we worked with, The Achieve Project helped to engage AUB students in a social change and empathy building project. Our documentary has been viewed by thousands of people since its release in December 2021. We hope that this too has an impact on how society views difference and that the documentary promotes a more conscious approach to support and collaboration between different groups in our community.     I worked at Victoria Education Centre, a school for young people with physical disabilities and associated neurological and learning difficulties. I first joined the company as a Youth Care Worker for their out of term-time programmes with young people. My role was to support students to access activities and assist in the provision of personal care as relevant to each individual. As an Activity Instructor I organised and prepared sessions appropriate to the young people I worked with. Later I worked as a Support Worker within the residential and educational departments of school. I also delivered music workshops to groups and individuals within the centre. These workshops helped learners with both educational and social goals. They were inclusive for people with any needs, including sensory learners.
