A career timeline built from the work history available for this profile.
Project Manager
I work closely with senior leadership within the Biorepository to manage multiple medium to large complex projects. I am responsible for initiating, planning, executing, monitoring and closing the projects. I assist with strategic planning and implementation of activities and other group functions. I also work with large data models to aid in decision-making.
Business Analyst | Business And Data Coordinator - Biopathology Center
I was responsible for providing support to various members within the Biopathology Center (BPC) at Nationwide Children's Hospital. I managed large data sets for reporting to sponsors, monitoring internal processes, quality control review/assessment, invoicing and assessing resource allocation for sponsored projects and contracts. I assisted in the preparation of grant applications, progress reports, manuscripts, and presentations as appropriate – including working closely with other staff to compile data and update information, creating diagrams, reviewing technical documents, drafting or reviewing text.
Technology Development Specialist - Institutue For Genomic Medicine
Many types of samples/projects flow through the Institute for Genomic Medicine (IGM). One of my roles is to increase our automation efforts related to Next Generation Sequencing, Clinical Molecular Testing, and Nucleic Acid Extractions. I test and develop protocols to be integrated into a CAP/CLIA environment. I work closely with multiple groups to aid in integrating the technology development work with the clinical team. There are also large-scale research projects within IGM that I help with sample management to sequencing. I have experience running various sequencing platforms including the Illumina HiSeq4000, NovaSeq, iSeq, MiSeq, and MiniSeq; along with some exposure to the PacBio Sequel instrument.
Senior Research Associate - Biomedical Genomics Services
Researchers would submit samples to our lab for Next Generation Sequencing (NGS). I prepared over 2,000 samples of RNAseq, exome, whole genome, and 10X genomics libraries and loaded the samples on various sequencing platforms. I developed a sample management system to aid in organizing and storing all the samples. Protocols were written to establish a uniform processing mechanism across all laboratory personnel. Project management included discussing results with clients and making sure deadlines were met. I was also the point person for our freezer monitoring system.
Genetic Technologist Ii - Clinical Molecular Genetics Laboratory
I worked for two departments in this role; the Clinical Molecular Genetics Lab (MGL) and the Biospecimen Core Resource (BCR). Within the MGL lab I performed testing for Cystic Fibrosis, Prader-Willi, thrombophilia mutations, bone marrow transplant patients for donor matching, and Connexin 26/30 mutations.Aside from these tests, I worked on The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) project through the Biospecimen Core Resource (BCR). The BCR was the link for Tissue Source Sites and Research Networks to establish shipments and collect data on a set of samples for future research of over 20 different cancer types. I extracted nucleic acids, performed SNP arrays, and shipped out over 50,000 samples for a world wide effort to provide information for the fight against cancer. I helped prepare budgets, create audits, and was one of the leads in the laboratory.
Research Associate - Center For Molecular Genetics
Working in the Center for Molecular and Human Genetics, my research was focused on the gene Nsdhl which is a gene involved in cholesterol biosynthesis. My main role was creating an Nsdhl conditional knock-out mouse model using the Cre-LoxP system. Once the mouse line was created we were able to cross it with cre-expressed lines with genes expressed in the brain, bones, and placenta. These crosses allowed us to explore the deletion of Nsdhl and its effects using various lab techniques. This included animal husbandry and managing all the various mouse lines used by the entire laboratory.Aside from studies of Nsdhl, I helped sequence the coding region of the Contactin 4 (CNTN4) gene in a control panel for the comparison to a cohort with Autism Spectrum Disorders. This would later be published to identify unique missense variants in 4 of 75 unrelated individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder, as well as in 1 of 107 controls. Although this didn't have any statistical significance, future studies in CNTN4 functions as an Autism susceptibility locus will still be necessary.
Director Of Development
I am proud to sit on this board and volunteer my time in hopes that money raised will aid in finding a cure for brain cancer one day! I joined Great Minds to help those impacted by Brain Cancer. We organize about 3-4 fundraising events per year and raise money for a research fund at The Ohio State University James Cancer Center.
Research Assistant
Working for The Laboratory of Renewable Resources Engineering (LORRE) was a work-study program I was a part of at Purdue University for 3 school years. This gave me exposure to laboratory management, by dealing with ordering supplies, prepping laboratory equipment/reagents for senior researchers, and inventorying equipment. In the later part of my time there, I was given the opportunity to learn and perform some basics such as DNA isolation and data management.
Laboratory Assistant 2
Summer job - Animal Industry Central Receiving Department. I organized the incoming specimens that arrived and entered them into the database for testing specified by the sender. Test results were delivered to veterinarians around Ohio.
Research Intern
Summer job - Laboratory on campus emphasizing on Neurotrophin mechanism in chronic pain propagation. My role here was helping the senior researchers with DNA isolation, Laser Capture Microscopy (LCM), and running timed experiments examining pain propagation.
