About Natalie Carrillo

I have worked in both education and juvenile justice to develop systems that work with and for youth in need of supports. My approach has been data driven. In the past five years, I have developed my analytical and evaluation skills, but try to keep my focus on how to use these skills to improve systems. My goals are to affect youth development and education on a broader scale. I would like to work for an organization that helps schools and communities use best practices to increase their effectiveness. I would like to work an organization within which I can grow and learn.Specialties: Education, youth, policy, research, evaluation, disproportionate minority contact, school improvement, juvenile justice, building collaborative efforts.

I currently work to help the Pima County Juvenile Court reduce disproportionate minority contact. My work is a combination of coordination, evaluation, data collection, and helping to facilitate systems change efforts within the court. We have been working with law enforcement, schools, the County Attorneys Office, the Public Defender's Office, as well as service providers and other agencies in Pima County over the past several years. We monitor decision point data, determine where we see persistent DMC, establish appropriate interventions, and measure the affects of those interventions. This work is relatively new, and there are some resources to draw from, but not very many. We would love to hear from other jurisdictions that are doing this work.
