As a CAMH Specialist nurse, within a Crisis team, I am responsible for providing specialist assessments of young children and their parents/carers referred to the service. This involves appropriate interpretation and integration of complex data from a variety of sources, often with in crisis settings such A&E, health based places of safety and in the community. I am able to formulate and implement plans for evidence-based interventions, based upon an appropriate conceptual framework, and employing methods based upon evidence of efficacy, while maintaining a number of provisional hypotheses, adjusting and refining formulations or understandings, drawing upon different explanatory models and employing methods of intervention; with this, I am able to monitor progress during the course of interventions, ensuring that all interventions are fully assessed, planned, implemented and evaluated in conjunction with CYP IAPT minimum dataset standards. Undertaking risk assessment and management underpins the nature of our work, however I must also evaluate and make decisions about treatment options taking into account both theoretical and therapeutic models, and highly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes that have shaped the individual and the family. I also help facilitate our Parents support group which aims to provide peer support and improve parent/child relationships.Within this role, I also work on our Crisis advice line, providing specialist mental health advice guidance and consultation to other professionals contributing directly to the care of the young child and their parents/carers. I am able communicate in a skilled and sensitive manner, and implement a range of psychotherapeutic interventions, drawing on different explanatory models that are considered age appropriate, or adapt as necessary. I am currently working with the Quality Improvement focus group to enhance Joy At Work

Training and ProgressionTook part in a CAMHS development programme, assessed on a framework underpinning Core Knowledge, Generic Therapeutic, Assessment and Specialist CAMHS CompetenciesDuring this time I was expected to collect evidence to support assessment to produce a professional portfolio; including items such as clinical encounter feedback forms, colleague feedback, written reflections, case studies and observation in practice and simulations, all assessed by our Practice Development Nurse.This training allowed me to develop into my current role and provided me with the foundations to enhancing my current practice.

Hounslow Crisis Assessment And Treatment Team

Undertaking high quality psychiatric assessments in in patient, community and liaison settings in order to provide home treatment to those with acute mental health problems as an alternative to hospital admission. Supporting people in the community requires the ability to conduct accurate and holistic risk assessments that can be tailored to the needs of the service user and their social network, while being attuned to understanding where safeguarding protocols may need to be addressed.I have been involved in co-ordinating treatment plans and completing referrals for long term care, promoting evidence-based practice through personal keen interests, application and psycho-education with colleagues and service users.I have developed strong links with different services and members of the multidisciplinary team; which has allowed me to develop effective communication skills in different settings with different people. During my time in the Crisis, Home Treatment Team; I completed my preceptorship and further progressed to a band 6 nurse through evidencing high quality practice and developing leadership skills by implementing initiatives and supporting fellow colleagues.I also completed Compassion Focused Therapy skills training.
