I am a Research Fellow at The University of Melbourne within the Biochemistry and Pharmacology department, at The Bio21 Institute of Molecular Science and Biotechnology. I work within the evolving fields of neuroendocrine research and related biomarker studies, using my interdisciplinary skills in laboratory sciences and clinical research. My translational work aims to develop lab-based peripheral diagnostic, prognostic, and treatment response biomarkers for neurological conditions and chronic diseases. I currently lead the Myalgic Encephalomyelitis / Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS) and Long Covid Neuroendocrine Research Program and run an observational clinical trial using a repeated-measures study design. I also led the establishment of the Neuroendocrine BioRepository at the Monash Alfred Psychiatry Research Centre, which houses biological samples (saliva, serum/plasma and DNA/RNA) alongside comprehensive clinical and cognitive profiles of psychiatric patients and healthy controls. My translational work involves close collaborations with neurology, endocrinology, cognitive neuroscience, and immunology with the aim to develop peripheral-based biomarker algorithms for varying chronic disease populations, with a particular focus on the neuroendocrine system and steroids. I also aim to improve our understanding of the role steroids have in stress and energy metabolism and elucidate sex and gender-based differences in chronic illness.
