Coordinates the special education process from screening through identification, IEP development, and placement to ensure:(1) appropriate identification and placement of students with disabilities; and(2) compliance with state and federal requirements for the implementation of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, IDEA.

Write, revise, implement and maintain a standards-based IEP for students with a variety of disabilities. Understand and stay up to date on the state academic standards that guide a standards-based IEP. Monitor and evaluate student achievement using a variety of assessment tools and data including achievement data, curriculum standards and assessments, classroom data, adaptive scores, and observation records.

Provide instruction, assessment and program planning for students with a range of disabilities. Use a variety of teaching methods and strategies to adapt curriculum and provide appropriate accommodations for special needs students ranging from those identified as resource students to those in a self-contained setting. COMMUNICATE EFFECTIVELY AND ASSIST GROUPS WITH PROBLEM SOLVING AND DECISION MAKING PROCESSESParticipate in team meetings and activities with other professionals and family members to determine programming needs for special education students to include LRE placement, behavior strategies, specialist services (both school based and contracted) and any other accommodations or modifications that may be appropriate.

Lead and direct the work of others. Complete and maintain appropriate student registration, attendance, and assessment records, and ensure timely submission of data for NRS input.
