I had the privilege of working Event staff for SFG the past two GenCon. It was especially satisfying to run full learn-to-play and playtesting events for such fantastic games and intellectual properties. As is natural for events like these, the whole event staff took on logistics and sales roles in addition to our instruction and entertainment ones. The US event team is truly a family and our cousins from across the pond aren't bad either <3

CMON is an awesome game company that gives Matt and I the opportunity to travel around to different gaming conventions all across the country. We assist with setting up and taking down booths and displays at the start and end, but during the conventions, we get to demonstrate the vast and fabulous catalog of board games CMON has to offer to the convention attendees. I get the experience of learning, playing, and teaching games to strangers who are just as excited about board games as we are. CMON is a great crowd of people that treat their volunteers and their customers with great kindness and respect.

As office manager of a small office that controlled a number of operations, I was given the opportunity to learn a variety of skills that I would not have had working in such a position elsewhere. I performed more normal office management functions such as customer service, bookkeeping, organization, scheduling, and maintenance. In addition, however, I was responsible for business writing that extended to promotional, contract lifecycle management, professional correspondence, and reporting purposes. It was at this job that I also learned via trial-by-fire, how to create professionally formatted marketing materials using the Adobe Creative Suite or Microsoft Office products, depending on the complexity of the project. I learned about managing marketing campaigns and Contact Resource Management.I learned how to perform certain types of business filing to the US SEC. I picked up a variety of office technology knowledge that led to me becoming the office's Internal primary tech-support technician as well. I will always be grateful for my time at Spanish Hills Financial Group. I worked with and for wonderful people. I learned a lot out of necessity, but I also learned from my managers and customers. We worked with mostly Retirees, California Qualified Investors, and financial planning professionals. As such, I was always surrounded by people that were far more educated and experienced than myself. I learned how to conduct myself in a professional manner when I was the smallest fish in the pond, and still manage to bring a meaningful contribution to the operation. As I was often the youngest individual in a team, I was often of the opinion that we should push innovation and change; but my vastly more experienced coworkers taught me the value of learning and observing an existing system before assuming it needed to be updated.I have taken the skills and experiences I had at Spanish Hills Financial Group and utilized them in every component of my life.

Henson's Music Center is one of tradition's last stands in the Ventura County Music Industry. A 3-generation family business with deep roots in the local community, this store was a trans-generational cultural experience.My job as a simple sales clerk involved many of the normal operations performed by any retail worker today. The difference between what we did at Hensons, however, and the rest of the modern world, is how we did things. We tracked everything on pen and paper or triplicate receipt with carbon paper. We performed our math on an old 10-key before we plugged it into the register. We fixed musical instruments, and never abandoned them, even after their owners did. I once helped a man check out to pay for the repairs on an instrument we had repaired 20 years previously, and it was still waiting for him, up-to-date, and looked after. I learned the basics of putting in store stock orders and performing analytics on our sales. Our analytics were done by observing the purchase history of books that were recorded on inventory cards, some that were decades old. Our customers varied in age from centenarians to toddlers. We were there to guide both the novice and the expert. We had to stock sheet music for the most contemporary trends but ensure that we stayed true to the pinnacles of the craft. My supervisors and coworkers were like family and I will always cherish the time I spent there.

Supplemental Instruction (SI) is a nontraditional form of tutoring that focuses on collaboration, group study, and interaction for assisting students in undertaking "traditionally difficult" courses. SI leaders attend all of the assigned lectures, take thorough notes, and participate as a traditional student within the course. SI leaders plan and use a variety of teaching and learning methods within 3 one-hour sessions to demonstrate effective study strategies that a student can apply to any class thus providing an opportunity for students to learn how to learn while learning what to learn. I took part in a pilot program at Ventura college utilizing SI for basic skills courses and it was truly a rewarding experience.
