Interview of COVID-19 cases to undertake a public health risk assessment, identify contacts and provide public health advice.

Participant and researcher in a 9-person-team conducting a participatory action research study to evaluate a pilot alumni-peer mentorship scheme for MSc Public Health distance learning students undertaking a year-long research project.Conducted an inductive thematic analysis of mentor feedback. Contributed to the study’s codebook development. Coordinated with the principle investigator and 7 participant researchers located across 4 continents to discuss individual analyses and agree on themes to create the study codebook.Supported the principle investigator in presenting the initial evaluation results at the Research and Innovation in Distance Education, and eLearning (RIDE) annual conference, by facilitating small group discussions among the attendees to see if there were transferable lessons or training materials they could use in their setting.Interim summary report: https://london.ac.uk/sites/default/files/cde/Peer-Mentorship-Interim-Summary.pdf

Developed 3 Spanish-language health and nutrition workshop manuals for community health volunteers, covering 3 phases of life. Developed a Guide for community health volunteers on using the World Health Organisation’s Anthro app to monitor the growth of the children sponsored by ChildFund.

Increased website traffic 2.5-fold by tripling weekly article (blogs, newsletters, tutorials) production (research and writing) from 2 to 7 articles per week. This included formatting and publishing web content using WordPress.Email outreach and relationship building with industry partners.Ensured continual coordination with 3 remote team members using Slack (communications) and Trello (project management) to ensure articles were published on time.Onboarding of 2 new remote team members to take on the roles of content manager and communications manager. Training was delivered through live demonstration and recorded video tutorials.

Carried out Well Child care for the 46 students attending the CENIT school (aged 7-19 years) and 80 children attending the preschool programme (aged 2-4 years). Discussed the results with parents along with nutritional and dental hygiene advice and referral to the public healthcare system if warranted.Identified a high rate of stunting (28% in <5s and 30% in >5s), researched the problem and national initiatives, and debriefed school staff and volunteers. Developed a series of initiatives to help improve the nutritional status of the children. All children aged under 5 who were identified with low height for weight were registered with Ecuador’s “Desnutricion Cero” programme.Ran 3-monthly screening events for diabetes and hypertension in conjunction with the local health centre, each event attended by approx 50 adults aged 40+ years. On average, 25% required follow-up for high blood pressure or hypertension.Designed and delivered health workshops fortnightly for children aged 6-12 years, and monthly for their parents.Provided patient advocacy, helping families access and navigate the public health system.Monitored health activities and outcome, summarising in monthly reports the activities delivered and the number of children and families served.
