About Natascha Biebow

Hello! Come connect and learn with me.Librarians, educators and booksellers, I am keen to connect with you about my non-fiction biography THE CRAYON MAN: THE TRUE STORY OF THE INVENTION OF CRAYOLA CRAYONS (HMH, March 2019), illustrated by Steven Salerno. Winner of the Irma Black Award for Excellence in Children's Books, NSTA Best STEM book, JLG Gold Choice Award, Amazon Bestseller. It is the true story of an inventor who so loved nature’s vibrant colors that he found a way to bring the outside world to children – in a bright green box for only a nickel! With experimentation, and a special knack for listening, Edwin Binney and his dynamic team at Crayola created one of the world’s most enduring, best-loved childhood toys – empowering children to dream in COLOR! I offer virtual and in-person author visits and workshops. Five Quills

I am passionate about storyshaping, which is why I love editing books for Five Quills, where we are all about creating stories that open children’s worlds, inspiring curiosity and wonder. As a child, you could find me mucking about with paints, hanging out with the dog, or reading a book up a tree. Now, I get up to messy science experiments that Al tells me I should do (luckily no eggs landed in our neighbour’s plants!), and enjoy being out in nature like Lottie. If I got into a race with the Gingerbread Man, I’d surely lose because I’ve never been that great at sports (though I try!). I wish I were as ingenious as Bug Belly! When I’m not editing, I’m writing children’s books or co-chairing for the SCBWI – or, of course, reading a book and eating chocolate!
