About Natasha Bradshaw

Natasha has thirty years experience in coastal and marine governance, planning and management. She is an independent researcher/consultant based in Devon, England. In 2023, Natasha completed a PhD at the University of the West of England (UWE, Bristol) on enhancing collaborative governance for coastal stewardship in the UK. She is a co-founding Director of Ocean and Coastal Futures Ltd hosting events and a weekly news service to the UK coastal and marine community, including the annual Coastal Futures conference in London. Natasha provides governance and engagement advice to design long-term coastal protection strategies in the Mediterranean for the European Commission (DG Reform). During 2021-22 she worked on 'Championing Coastal Coordination' projects for the Environment Agency (UK) and since 2019, Natasha has been contracted by the Blue Marine Foundation to research a vision for National Marine Parks in Britain. At home, Natasha is a local Cllr for Mid Devon District Council advising on climate change and environmental policy implementation.In previous employed positions, Natasha worked for WWF-UK as adviser to the European funded Celtic Seas Partnership project and managed the ocean governance programme, led campaigning for the UK Marine Acts and European maritime policy. She spent ten years leading the work of three estuary partnerships in south-west England (Severn, Exe, Teign estuaries) co-ordinating local government, business and communities to support sustainable management. She was awarded a Winston Churchill Fellowship to research estuaries with some of the highest tidal ranges in the world (Fundy, Severn, Penzhinskaya) and their potential for renewable energy, tourism and sustainable development. Natasha has worked on many EC projects in the field of coastal and marine management. She has also undertaken consultancy work for the UK government and World Bank on coastal management and public interpretation projects in the Black Sea countries. She spent the early part of her career specialising in environmental impact assessments of river and coastal engineering projects and working with environmental NGOs in Ukraine.Her current appointments include President of the European Coastal & Marine Union (EUCC) Board, Advisor to the UK Coastal Partnerships Network committee, Marine Management Organisation and appointee to the Devon & Severn Inshore Fisheries & Conservation Authority.
