I specialise in environmental, policy, and planning advice with a particular focus on assisting clients to:• Obtain consents and designations for large scale projects through effective advocacy at mediations and hearings and by implementing tailored consenting strategies.• Achieve their desired outcomes for policy and plan reform and development, leveraging my background in policy analysis.• Understand their development opportunities and legal obligations in national, regional, and district planning documents.In 2020-2022 I was named a ‘Next Generation Partner’ for projects and resource management in New Zealand by The Asia Pacific Legal 500 Guide (an independent publication).In 2020 I was nominated by The NZ Lawyer in their inaugural list of ‘Rising Stars’ in the NZ Legal Profession. Inclusion in this list acknowledges recognition by clients and the wider legal profession to those who are committed to making a difference.I am Convenor of the NZLS Climate Change Law Committee.Examples of matters I’ve worked on include:• Waikato-Tainui: assisting with its mahi on the RMA reforms and three waters reforms.• Waka Kotahi/ Auckland Transport: legal lead for the North, Warkworth, and Pukekohe packages for Te Tupu Ngātahi the Supporting Growth Alliance, advising on route protection for Auckland’s future transportation network. • Igneo Infrastructure Partners on the resource management issues associated with the NZ$1.9 billion acquisition of Waste Management New Zealand.• Transpower: representation at hearings and Environment Court mediations to ensure planning instruments effectively protect the National Grid and enable its ongoing operation.• Meridian Energy: representation in direct referral proceedings in the Environment Court to secure consents for the Hurunui Wind Farm.• Auckland Transport: on declaratory proceedings in the Environment Court relating to the interpretation of the provisions for ‘rollover’ designations and lapse dates under the RMA.
