About Natasha De Silva

With an international and national profile as a human rights and gender equality expert, for over 20 years I have worked with governments and organisations to build knowledge, technical capacity and develop leading, evidence based policy and practice. Currently the Principal of Intersection, a consultancy specialising in human rights-based approaches in the workplace, I bring to this a holistic and intersectional understanding of gender equality, disability rights, LGBTI rights, age discrimination and racial equality. Intersection assists organisations to accelerate their diversity and inclusion goals and create safe and respectful workplaces. With deep expertise in sexual harassment prevention and response, I have led significant national policy reforms including Set the Standard: the Independent Review into Commonwealth Parliamentary Workplaces (2021); Respect@Work: the National Inquiry into Sexual Harassment in Australian Workplaces (2020); Everyone’s Business: the Fourth National Survey on Sexual Harassment in the Workplace (2018); and Change the Course: Report on Sexual Assault and Sexual Harassment at Australian Universities (2017) as Senior Executive at the Australian Human Rights Commission.I specialise in advancing gender equality in male dominated sectors such as mining, sport and command and control/military environments and led key projects including:- FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 Human Rights Risk Assessment (2021)- Change the Routine: Independent Review into Gymnastics in Australia (2021)- Racial Equality Review of Basketball (2021)- Let’s talk race: A guide on how to conduct a conversation on racism (2019) to accompany the release of The Final Quarter documentary - Guidelines: Equal opportunity for women and girls in golf (2019)- Guidelines for the inclusion of trans and gender diverse people in sport (2019)From 2011-2014 I was a member of the leadership team on the Review into the Treatment of Women in the Australian Defence Force and at the Australian Defence Force Academy.For 15 years I worked on and subsequently managed the Australian Human Rights Commission's international engagement portfolio, implementing DFAT funded human rights programs in the region (China, Laos, Vietnam, Sri Lanka) focussed on criminal justice reform, child protection, disability rights, gender equality and UN reporting.I am passionate about creating safe, equal and diverse workplaces through leading practice and evidence and the development of pragmatic solutions.
