As well as professional services provided to the university community, the QUT Marketing and Communication Department is responsible for a variety of corporate communication functions and oversees relevant policies, protocols and governance arrangements.As the Corporate Communication Officer, I develop, deliver and execute strategic internal communication plans for the university’s Vice-Chancellor and President and members of the University Executive Committee.I prepare and oversee production of corporate videos, newsletters, magazines and brochures and manage internal events with QUT and external stakeholders.

The QUT Marketing and Communication Department, is responsible for building and protecting QUT's brand and reputation and ensuring communications from QUT are effective and of a high professional standard. As a production coordinator, I collaborate with various stakeholders to produce print and digital materials to promote QUT. I have a demonstrated ability in organising and coordinating projects and people effectively to achieve goals within tight deadlines and budgets. I work in a number of web-based content management systems and have a familiarity with new media and digital marketing channels. Working in the broader Marketing and Communication department, I have developed advanced editing, writing and proof-reading skills as well as an understanding of sound communication design principles, including corporate identity considerations, typography and layout.

As the Communications Officer for the Alumni and Development Office at QUT, I was responsible for implementing communication strategies for QUT's alumni and philanthropy programs. In this role, I manged our web content on several CMS platforms, including Squizmatrix and Wordpress. I helped build the digital presence of QUT alumni and donor communities on social media, and created engagement strategies to reach our target markets through eDM.In this role, I also administered the Engagement Innovation Grants scheme.

Alongside my professional communication career, I am passionate about music festivals and event work. I have worked in several of the biggest festivals in the country including Falls Festival, Soundwave, Splendour in the Grass and Byron Bay Blues Festival. At the Byron Bay Blues Festival, Soundwave and Falls Festival, I have worked in volunteer coordination, managing teams of volunteers between 10 and 40 people, in various areas around the festival sites including Waste, Carparks, Production, Bars, Wristbanding, Cloakroom, Surveys and Disability Services. My experience at Splendour in the Grass has primarily been in Information and Lost and Found. I assisted in the implementation of a lost and found procedure, working to return hundreds of lost items during the festival, and in the subsequent days. I also have experience working at border patrol for the festival site.

I work as a private tutor for Journalism, Communication and International Relations subjects. I help to identify and correct areas of learning a student might be struggling with. As I work with small groups (1-5 students) I am able to tailor my approach to the needs of the individual rather than the collective needs of an entire classroom.

I have worked as a tutor within the School of Communication and Arts within the Humanities and Social Sciences faculty at UQ, Teaching Identity, Culture and Communication. This course critically examined the relationships between culture, identity and communication. I was also involved in restructuring the Communication Theory and Practice (COMU7101) and Intercultural Communication (COMU2170) units.

The Alumni and Community Relations team focus on engagement, fostering mutually beneficial life-long relationships between the university and their 230,000+ alumni while enhancing the brand and raising the profile of UQ globally. The team promotes stronger connections through a range of high impact events, beneficial programs and services, professional networking, and volunteer opportunities. As the Alumni Support Officer, I was the central point of contact for alumni. I provided administrative support, event assistance and various other client services.

Cole Lawson is a public relations consultancy specialising in communication strategy, media relations and training, and reputation and crisis management. As the recipient of the Cole Lawson Communications Scholarship 2014, I was invited into the team for a month to assist in their regular duties. I was given the opportunity to prepare social media posts, conduct news screenings and assist in research.

Student Ambassadors are the ‘face of UQ’ and represent the University at a wide range of on and off-campus events. I assisted in Open Days, Tertiary Expos and various other events on campus in this capacity. I was also involved in logistics and event management, and public speaking at internal and external events.

Crisis Ready is a niche consultancy delivering crisis preparedness and media training to both Government and corporate clients. I worked with Crisis Ready in compiling data to build a risk management system for a high level client and attended client meetings and crisis communication workshops around Brisbane City. I also assisted in the creation of a workshop training scenario and helped present it at the 2014 Emergency Media Public Affairs (EMPA) conference in Canberra.

The Daily Examiner is one of the oldest regional daily newspapers in Australia. In my internship with them, I was involved in daily newsroom meetings, conducting interviews, writing and submitting articles, taking photos and gauging popular opinion through vox pops.
