Monitored crucial parameters such as Frequency, Area Control Error, and Inadvertent Power Flows between utilities while controlling loading, voltage, and vars across all HEA Generation assets. This included a combined cycle plant, multiple natural gas generators, hydro-electric units, emergency diesel generators, and a TESLA BESS system.Reviewed and authorized Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and Generation Clearances. Conducted safety training for plant operators. Supervised the Nikiski Combined Cycle plant operators during rotating shift work through all daily operations and shutdown maintenance periods.

Trident Training Facility, Bangor Wa

Led a staff of seven plant operation instructors for two different team trainers that provided the instruction for all 19 submarine crews in the Pacific Northwest. These team trainers simulate the control room of the reactor, electrical distribution systems, the steam turbines used for propulsion, electrical power production, and the multiple support systems, air conditioning, fresh water, high pressure air and hydraulics, needed onboard submarines.Annually provided more than 1450 hours of training and feedback to the power plant operators of 19 submarine crews resulting in the standards for level of knowledge being raised in the Pacific Northwest.Provided advice and mentorship to power plant directors and superintendents on developing their operator’s response to complex casualty scenarios and power plant operation. Certified crews to perform startup, shutdown and maintenance procedures.Managed, developed, and delivered training for staff at the FIDE, resulting in marked improvement in the level of knowledge noted by external audits.

Managed 102 employees in a submarine engineering department that consisted of five divisions responsible for the operation of the reactor plant, steam turbine plants, electrical distribution, and all support systems required on a submarine.Driving force behind the successful integration of two submarine crews into one faster than any previous submarine crew entering Engineered Refueling Overhaul.Ranked as the highest performing Senior Chief onboard the USS MAINE and the highest performing Manager in a squadron consisting of nine submarines.Reviewed and approved operating and maintenance procedures for technical accuracy, safety, and efficiency. This directly resulted in setting plant conditions for refueling in record time, while maintaining the highest standards, and zero mishaps.Mentorship ability led to the department having a 90% retention rate, 27 employee promotions, two employees of the quarter and one employee of the year.

Uss Maine (Bangor, Wa), Uss Springfield (Groton, Ct), Nptu Staff (Ballston Spa, Ny)

Supervised a shift of eight control room and rover operators through the maintenance and operation of reactor control equipment, electrical distribution system, generation and propulsion steam turbines, high pressure air and hydraulic systems, reverse osmosis units, and daily water samples, during two overseas deployments, six deterrent deployments, and multiple maintenance periods of varying length and complexity.Selected to be the Command Safety Officer to improve a below standards safety program. Through open communication and efficient use of resources, made the safety program productive. These efforts resulted in the USS MAINE being recognized as the best submarine in the Pacific Fleet when she was awarded the 2015 CNO Afloat Safety Award. Coordinated, planned, and supervised the execution of repairs that required a rare procedure never performed by any ships’ crew (at sea single loop cooldown). This allowed continued operation of the plant while performing repairs to the main steam system.Created, implemented, and managed a training schedule and exams, as well as observed and evaluated personnel performance during power plant drill simulation for over three hundred staff operators.Directed a division in the planning and execution of over 3000 annual man hours of preventative instrumentation and control maintenance items while concurrently meeting operational and training requirements. Led a division through extensive troubleshooting and repair of safety instrumentation, including microprocessor and solid-state based Reactor Coolant Pump Control circuitry, Reactor Plant Control Panel, and circuit breakers faults.
