Most recently, I worked at Advent Intermodal Solutions as a Delivery (DevOps) Engineer. This includes the configuration, testing and deployment of new features. Organized within Azure Cloud and DevOps, I have a lot of experience using Visual Studios, CI/CD Pipelines, Powershell scripting, SQL queries and GIT repositories. I was responsible for configuration changes of our platform. I also balanced our client needs between software capabilities. To do this, I deployed changes to our website at our customer's requests and identify roadblocks within the existing setup. I have gained a lot of experience using Azure DevOps and use it everyday to organize progress and limitations across teams. I made frequent changes to our databases, service fabric threads and service bus queues. I also worked outwardly with clients to understand their needs and our shortcomings. The position was mostly configurations, but I also gained experience with respect to our clients and business intelligence. This work has given me hard skills in software engineering outside of my coursework which focused on mathematics.

In my first role at Advent, I worked directly with users and clients to solve platform issues. This required a deep understanding of platform architecture, application flow and database structure. I gained a lot of experience with SQL, the Azure Cloud, and the logistics industry. I was also responsible for the documentation and reporting of any bugs, so I gained experience as the user voice to developers. In this role, I learned a lot about problem solving and professional behavior. This specific platform had a "hostage user-base", so I unfortunately had to deal with unhappy users as well as pleased ones. While certainly unpleasant, this gave me a lot of experience with professional etiquette and posturing. My team also handled site outages and the necessary repairs to fix them.

In this role, I built data processing, collection, cleaning and visualization tools in Java, SQL, and R. My tools were actually used by the whole company. I gained a lot of programming and technical experience, but also critical thinking and business intelligence. After collecting and processing the data, I then built tools to visualize the information before extracting insights for my company. This is my favorite part because it combines the technical know-how of visualizations with the critical thinking of real-world applications. I produced complex data acquisition and analysis programs for a growing patent software company. I gained experience, responsibility and competency in both the workplace and in programming during long-term internship. I learned increased scrutiny of software design and flexibility to changing requirements. After completing multiple data analysis projects, I was offered further full-time employment. Data Science is much more exciting to me than my DevOps role was.

I organized and led programs to help New Students at RIT feel comfortable contributing to our culture! This has helped me to learn important leadership skills, including the ability to lead as a peer rather than a superior. This was a great experience in part because I could see the difference I was making for many new, uneasy, or insecure students who are now important, growing parts of RIT's greater body.

I worked closely with servers, cooks and managers in a small family-run restaurant in the public market. I really loved this job as it gets me into the city and exposes me to new places, people and things. It has helped me to socialize politely and to balance multiple tasks simultaneously to operate efficiently and effectively. But more importantly, the food is great!
