Science has improved our lives in so many ways: faster computers, smaller energy storage devices with higher capacity, stronger materials, better medical treatments – all of these things are made possible by identifying significant problems and then continuously refining solutions.For me, this has been largely dominated by materials synthesis and characterization in the solid state. I’m fortunate to have worked with such a wide range of materials systems, from small molecule pharmaceuticals and nanoparticles to superconductors and battery electrodes. Central to all of this is the desire to understand how atomic and molecular structures yield specific chemical and physical properties.I believe in the same core principles with regards to business: identify a challenge, understand how pieces fit together, and then allow data-driven decisions to develop and refine a solution. I am a passionate advocate for education and lifelong learning. I believe that the dissemination of knowledge is one of the greatest honors and responsibilities as a scientist.
