About Nate Sutton

I recently earned a Ph.D. in Bionegineering with a concentration in Neurotechnology and Computational Neuroscience. I have been involved in multiple forms of Computational Neuroscience research during and before the degree. I continue to work on that research as I apply for post-doc positions. Some of my interest areas include computational modeling, spiking neural networks and other networks, sensory perception, spatial navigation, learning and memory, and processing electrophysiology recordings big data.  You are welcome to view some of my research at NSutton.com.  My diversity of software development in languages and technologies, degrees related to Computational Neuroscience and Computational Biology, biological knowledge of neuroscience and psychology, mathematical skills gained from statistics and calculus related courses, and working with machine learning algorithms combine to assist me in my work. For many years I have worked on Computational Neuroscience and Computational Biology research projects. I have analyzed big neural and biomedical data (e.g., genetics) through optimizing software design, working with a variety of statistical techniques, and integrating well with apis, libraries, and other code. In terms of programming I have worked with multiple compiled and interpreted languages but am strongest in C++, Java, and Python.  I am a full stack developer and I have done both frontend web development including javascript, PHP, and CSS, and backend development with database integration, web frameworks, and test suites.  See my Github page for examples: github.com/nmsutton. See my Google Scholar page for my publications: scholar.google.com/citations?hl=en&user=5-UnxssAAAAJ.

    Mazerunner: Rodent Spatial Memory Simulation
    Self Funded Jul 2017 - Oct 2018
    Cambridge, Ma
A model of grid and place cells, and theta rhythms will be implemented based on published models such as attractor networks for spatial awareness. A state of the art game engine, Unreal Engine 4, is used to simulate the maze and many experiment expansion possibilities exist, such as a water maze. In vivo rodent recordings and neurological properties are planned to be fit into the model to train it with a ground truth. New theories can emerge from altering the parameters. github.com/nmsutton/MazeRunner

3D Graphical Simulation Of Biophysics, Open Worm Project
    Self Funded Apr 2016 - Dec 2016
    Cambridge, Ma
Using C++, OpenCL, and Python OpenGL code was created to import 3d models from blender and generate a physics simulation of their activity. Signal recordings are reformatted to use them for processing control over muscle actuation of physics simulated models. Existing code was expanded on and collaborative discussions with original developers were done to advance the work. tinyurl.com/OWContrib
