Jazkarta is a full-service web development firm specializing in Python, including Django, Pyramid and Plone. We use agile development and open source software to help non-profits, universities and startups build sophisticated websites and web applications. Some notable customers include Oxfam America, Smithsonian, UNICEF and Harvard School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. While I wear many hats, I’m primarily responsible for business development, recruiting and sales and marketing.

SmallsLIVE is a website site that hosts 8,000 audio/video recordings from 7 years of live performances at Smalls Jazz Club in NYC. This archive is made available to fans worldwide on a subscription basis and the revenue generated is shared 50/50 with the artists.

Recruiting speakers, getting sponsors, organizing lectures and hack days, promoting meetup events on social media. Growing the membership to 3,000+ Django developers in the Boston area.

DjangoZoom was one of the first platform-as-a-service (PaaS) for Django developers. An early prototype was demoed in a lightning talk at DjangoCon 2010, and from the positive response, it became evident that there was a demand for such a service. So Shimon Rura and I spent the next year building DjangoZoom, a service to provide 1-click deploys of Django apps. We started offering beta access to early adopters about a month after that first demo. We won 3rd place in the Startup Weekend and this led to applying and getting accepted into the inaugural MassChallenge class of 2010. Ultimately, as large players moved into the space (Salesforce, VMWare, Redhat) and it became apparent that it was a race to the bottom, we decided to shut the down the service.

AUDIENCE is a cooperative of talented artists and passionate music fans committed to changing the way that the music business works. Part one of the mission is to help musicians get the funding that they need to create, record, and tour, while enabling them to retain ownership and revenue from the sale of their art. Part two is to enable fans to have closer relationships with the artists they care about – to support them as they build and sustain their careers. I'm helping steer the technology decisions and helping the cooperative to grow and bring on more artists over time.

The mission of the Plone Foundation is to protect and promote the Plone brand, and provide governance for the Plone community. I was elected to serve on the Plone Foundation Board for 3 terms. I was the chair of the marketing committee whose goal is to improve the global Plone marketing efforts. http://plone.org/foundation

Learning Lab Denmark is an experimental research organization funded by the Danish government and modeled after the MIT Media Lab. I was responsible for planning and executing the organizations IT and web strategy, managing a team of six IT professionals, and building the infrastructure to support a rapidly growing organization (from 12 to 90 FTE)

As a creation of Idealab, Partsearch Technologies is now a leading provider of Outsourced Parts Management solutions. I was involved in creating the very first version of their B2B e-commerce platform and building the tools to scrape 100s of part suppliers databases.

TalentSoft develops B2B and B2C e-commerce solutions and sells primarily to the Asian market. I was responsible for improving the installation of their software on various platforms, including Linux. I was also the project lead in building their site for 3rd party developers.

Ciceron Interactive is a web marketing firm. I was intimately involved on many of the firm’s consulting projects, translating business requirements into usable software and websites. (This was a summer position)

SoftNordic was a startup company to market and distribute the Danish version of Quicken. I built a web-based product registration system and assisted with other web initiatives. This was a summer position.

Denmark’s International Study is a government recognized Danish study abroad institution established in 1959. I was hired to build the school’s first website and teach the faculty how to update the website content. I also assisted with day-to-day IT operations and technical support.

Adobe Systems acquired Aldus (the makers of Pagermaker) while I was working at Aldus. During this summer job, I was the lead tester for Aldus Table, and was responsible for creating test plans to assure high quality software. This was a summer position.

MarkHealth Systems developed software for long-term healthcare providers in the Midwest. I worked there for three summers while I was in high school. I designed, coded, tested and debugged custom applications, and developed a software version control system.
