My family and I embarked on a multi-month sabbatical to explore the pacific northwest by sailboat.

Launched a new AWS service, Route 53 Application Recovery Controller for Critical Applications. Defined design processes and risk analysis for critical customer applications running on AWS.

My team writes manufacturing systems software for the Blue Origin rocket factory. These systems are much like continuous integration pipelines for software builds. Our software links CAD designs, with build instructions and facilitates the build process until parts are produced and then put into operation. We launched AWS WAF Oct 2015 and AWS Shield in 2016. We protect customers from malicious threats on the Internet. Our team builds a diverse set of software to achieve that goal, massive data analysis platforms, real-time packet and HTTP processing systems, control systems to safely manage filter deployment, and customer-friendly APIs and consoles. We've invented and evolved a number of algorithms to advance our capabilities. We've also released open-source tools to help our customers defend themselves from Internet threats.

Three doctors and two technology guys attempt to change the world of medicine by building software for primary care physicians. Our easy to use electronic medical exam templates gave health-care professionals the diagnostic data they needed while saving hours of note entry time per day.

I managed the development of external customer & partner APIs for a digital advertising platform using WCF, C#, SQL Server technologies. I started with a team of seven developers and created new Atlas digital advertisement campaign management APIs retrofitted to work with legacy campaign management backends. Post Microsoft acquisition, my role expanded to managing three software teams totaling thirty engineers. Projects included:-Simple ad placement management - designed a high-scale keyword management on top of Atlas's powerful ad management and reporting systems-Audience profile synchronization - Developed APIs to integrate Microsoft and Atlas's audience intelligence systems-Atlas/Omniture integration APIs - Data mart synchronization APIs with an external partner-Presented to numerous Microsoft engineering teams on agile development and continuous deployment methodologies.-Presenter at Microsoft MindShift in 2009 and 2010

I lead a team of on-call system engineers supporting our online products and services. I managed two operations teams and made a point of fostering a culture of DevOps and de-siloed functional roles. In 2007 aQuantive was acquired by Microsoft, where I acted as a cultural liaison to help both engineering teams through process integration. aQuantive was as agile/continuous deployment organization and joined forces with a 6-month cadence waterfall organization. In 2008, Microsoft acquired Rapt, an inventory management service with predictive analytics, there after I managed a third operations team based in San Francisco. I lead a team of dev-ops engineers supporting our online products and services. I was a production engineer for a component of a high-scale ad-delivery system, and a build and deployment engineer for all components of the Atlas product suite. Around 2003, I lead a team that developed tools and managed build and deployment systems for the aQuantive engineering team. I managed what was then a large-scale, multi-team, multi-day deployment process. I participated in evolving that system into a service-oriented continuous deployment model. Supported services include:-High-scale ad-delivery services in six points of presence (100Ks rps)-B2B APIs and UIs for ad campaign management & reporting-Large-scale data mart / ETL systems-Developed package management, build and deployment automation for a 300 person software development organization
