While my passion for computers and programming has been a lifelong journey, the most significant and relevant phase of my professional experience has been the last 16 years at Scale Computing. Here, my deep interest in technology has been fully realized, enabling me to make substantial contributions.In the company's early days, I was responsible for writing and maintaining the first UI, then transitioning into more complex systems programming and backend development. My contributions included work on the C++ state machine engine that manages the cluster of Linux nodes, forming the core of our product.As Scale Computing expanded, my role evolved significantly. Moving into management, I focused on refining team processes and efficiency, eventually advancing to the role of VP of Engineering. Despite this, my passion for hands-on development persisted, drawing me back to more technical roles. The first major project upon my return was implementing a Paxos algorithm in C++, based on the 'Paxos Made Simple' paper. This implementation, paired with concurrent work on a block storage engine, became the core of our clustered storage engine. I continued on to the TCP/IP network transport protocol for the storage engine, reaffirming my preferred technical path, where I continue to focus on system daemons, state machines, and consensus problems.Recently, I have learned to blend a technical leadership role with hands-on work, utilizing my interest in a lightweight process to keep my team active and focused on project goals. My involvement in cross-team communication has been crucial, and I've spearheaded projects addressing key company needs. Theseinclude enhancing developer tools to facilitate testing and reduce turnaround time, leading a cross-functional team for clear product requirements, and driving an ease-of-use project in response to customer demands. This approach has allowed me to maintain a balance between guiding my team and stayingdirectly engaged in the technical aspects of our work.These 16 years have been pivotal in my career, characterized by continuous innovation and a collaborative, creative approach to problem-solving. My strategy revolves around a deep understanding of problems, gathering use-case information, and devising inclusive solutions. Looking to the future, I aim to engage in projects that harness this blend of creative exploration and collaborative spirit, addressing complex technological challenges.
