Graduate Research AssistantOregon State University Sep 2019 - PresentCorvallis, OregonResearching coastal sediment transport in the wave bottom boundary layer through the use of point-particle large eddy simulation (PP-LES) modeling. Before running full sediment transport simulations, improvements to point-particle modeling of particles in this coastal sediment parameter space was needed. We first focused on improving the physics of the model specifically in the coastal sediment-like parameter regime through direct numerical simulations (DNS) of particle-laden homogeneous isotropic turbulence. Here, we are focused on testing improvements and additions in our model to gain better understanding of the settling dynamics of these coastal sediments in turbulence. The model being used is actively under development in our lab and I am responsible for contributing to the source code, written in Fortran90, whenever new capabilities are required. To date, I have written code to include an additional particle force which is typically neglected, but has been shown to be significant in the coastal sediment parameter regime. I am currently in the process of adding a particle collision model in order to simulate full sediment transport experiments including the collision-dominated bed-load transport region. For post-processing large amounts of both time-series and 3D spatial data, I write all of my own scripts in Julia, Python, and/or Matlab, including scripts for all data visualization. -
Graduate Teaching AssistantOregon State University Sep 2022 - Dec 2023Corvallis, Oregon, United StatesOne of two teaching assistants for large (140+ students) undergraduate courses in the College of Engineering. Courses were: Introduction to Fluid Mechanics (Winter and Spring 2023) and Mechanical Engineering Methods (an introduction to numerical methods for engineering problems; Fall 2022 and Fall 2023).Responsibilities included grading of assignments and exams as well as holding multiple office hours per week in which I provided example problems, checked student work, and assisted with student questions. These office hours typically involved 3-12 students at a given time, depending on the week. -
Summer Research InternU.S. Naval Research Laboratory Jun 2020 - Sep 2020Stennis Space Center, Mississippi, United StatesAssisted in the development of an OpenFOAM solver for dense mixtures of clay and water. My specific role included deriving equations of motion for this dense two-phase mixture and for starting to develop the source code in OpenFOAM. Due to the short duration of the internship, along with starting the development from scratch, I was able to get the source code to a compiled state, but was not able to get working examples by the end of the program. Development was continued by researchers at NRL after my role ended and the model, MudMixtureFoam, was completed and tested. I was granted co-authorship on an eventual paper for my early contributions to this work. -

Summer Research InternMonterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (Mbari) Jun 2019 - Aug 2019Moss Landing, CaliforniaUsed the Regional Ocean Modeling System (ROMS) and Adjoint Sensitivity Analysis to study the sensitivity of krill hotspots in the California Current System to different source water masses. -
Graduate Teaching AssistantUniversity Of California, Santa Cruz Apr 2019 - Jun 2019Santa Cruz, CaliforniaGraduate Teaching Assistant for AMS 10, Mathematical Methods for Engineers I, at UCSC. Duties include: holding office hours, leading two 2 hour discussion sections per week, grading quizzes and exams, and managing a team of graders who are tasked with grading weekly homework. -
Graduate Research AssistantUniversity Of California, Santa Cruz Jun 2018 - Jun 2019Santa Cruz, CaliforniaUsed the Regional Ocean Modeling System (ROMS) to develop high-resolution, free-surface, terrain-following ocean models as a means of studying wind-driven coastal upwelling around capes. Main focus was on studying enhanced coastal upwelling driven by topographic variations around capes. -
LifeguardActive Sports Clubs Jul 2014 - Sep 2015Scotts ValleyScan the area for any emergencies. Emergency prevention is the biggest part of my job. That includes informing members of the rules and stopping unsafe behavior before it escalates. Also communicating with the members and making sure feel safe and want to continue coming back. -
Tour GuideThe Mystery Spot May 2012 - Sep 2013Santa Cruz, CaliforniaTook groups of 5-30 people on tours of the premise. Tours include demonstrations and speeches about the history of the location. I had to entertain the groups for the duration of the 45-minute tours all the while trying to stay on a tight and consistent schedule since tours left every 5 minutes and overlapping groups were not allowed.
