My professional expertise and interests are in the areas global governance and international development (i.e. the role and impact of international institutions, globalization, natural resource extraction and post-extractivism on poverty reduction and sustainable livelihoods), the corporate social responsibility (CSR) of multinational corporations in sub-Saharan Africa, racism and higher education etc. For some of my scholarly publications on these topics, please see https://mcmaster.academia.edu/NathanAndrewsI also have experience in journalism, NGO/community engagement work, consulting for international organizations, University governance and administration. My PhD research was on Ghana's mining industry with a focus on CSR, social impacts, land loss issues and the gendered implications of mining. My postdoctoral research extended this focus to the oil and gas sector to investigate the relationship between oil, development, livelihoods and the diffusion of global CSR norms at the local level. I am also expanding further into the area of security and human rights ramifications of extraction - and I am part of other collaborative research that are expanding my focus into other African, Latin American, North American and Arctic case studies. My objective is to contribute to scholarly and policy discussions around the international political economy of natural resources and development. My other research interests focus on the scholarship of teaching and learning, with emphasis on critical pedagogies, racism, whiteness, and epistemic oppression in academic spaces. Related to this interest, I co-host the Hidden Figures Podcast which is avaliable on Apple and Spotify (https://open.spotify.com/show/4UYHejk97Vq2udUBRGmvhJ)***I remain open to part-time policy-relevant and consulting jobs.
