I am currently a junior studying Biomedical Engineering at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. I have always had an interest in science and technology, which made me pursue Biotechnology throughout my years of high school. I graduated in 2021 with a trade in biotechnology, but I wanted to further pursue my interests and study Biomedical Engineering.Years prior, during my Sophomore year of high school, I attended a leadership organization called Skills USA. Two of my classmates and I made a presentation surrounding Biomedical Engineering which we would present in a competition to some judges. This trip furthered my interest in Biomedical Engineering since we had to research the field and learn more about what the field entails. I ended up wanting to pursue Biomedical Engineering and my dream stood with me through the final years of high school. While I love science, I love technology just as much. I have learned how to use different software such as Adobe, and Microsoft Office, and filming software such as Tri-Caster. Over the summer I teach at a summer camp, demonstrating to kids how to record in a TV studio. It's a lot of fun to see the kids excited to record videos and learn how to edit. Teaching is fun and has helped me to improve my communication skills. Not only have I worked as a teacher, but I have also worked as a pharmacy technician. During my senior year of high school, I took a co-op at CVS Pharmacy. I had responsibilities such as talking to patients, sorting prescriptions, stocking the shelves, and returning old prescriptions as well. These tasks took time, and patience as well. These prescriptions were vital to the health of many patients, and they relied on me to fulfill their needs. I made sure to carefully sort, and prepare everything to ensure everything was correct. Even if a customer came in angry or upset, I would always continue to serve with a smile. This experience helped introduce me to the medical field, building up my knowledge and teaching me more important skills to help me become a successful engineer.
