I serve as an undergraduate research assistant under two graduate students leading separate projects in the PCAM research lab at the University of Tennessee, one of which is earning her PhD and the other his Master's degree. Under the first graduate student I primarily collect and process rheological data and recently began training the successive undergraduates in lab equipment, processes, and safety. This work has thus far been more theoretical exploration and investigation on the printability of recycled carbon fiber reinforced polymers, and is anticipated to culminate to a poster presentation at an international conference and co-authorship on a published research article this spring. The second graduate student recently accepted and relocated to a new job, and in his absence I have led the remaining research required to complete his thesis which primarily consists of printing tensile test samples on a custom 3D printer in order to analyze the effects of an experimental printing technique and extrusion system on the improved isotropy of these prints. This involves adapting MatLab scripts which generate the machine code on which the printer fabricates the test parts, conducting maintenance and repairs on the printer, machining and performing tensile tests on printed parts, and habitual problem-solving with errors encountered during the printing process.
