I have a strong interest in computer vision and have experimented with object detection using OpenCV and TensorFlow. As someone who suffers from colour blindness, the visual world fascinates me and I have undertaken projects involving infra red photography and also written a program that converts colour in video feed to mimic what I see; in order to better explain my visual impairment to others. As part of my A-Level in Computer Science, I am writing a program in Python that analyses drone footage of damaged crop fields to calculate the yield of crop damage and the price of its repair. I am currently working my way through Andrew Ng’s online Machine Learning coarse as the lockdown continues.As a Computing Prefect at my school, I mentor at coding club and am co-running the inaugural year of drone racing club. My efforts have been recognised in the awarding of my school’s G W Taylor Prize for Senior Computing.I also have a keen interest in the development of the technology industry as a whole and am a subscriber to numerous technology podcasts, articles and sites. My knowledge of the field was reflected in a Diplomatic Commendation I received at the Harvard Model United Nations in 2018 where I sat on the Council for Science and Technology for Development. In the four-day committee, we debated the impact of emerging technologies - such as Lethal Autonomous Weapons, automated cars and AI - on countries with limited access to these markets.
