Vidzing is an online live streaming provider that hosts videos for its clients. When I joined the company, it had been established for four months and had a team with two backend developers and one designer, among others. At that time, the design for the video page had already been completed, and both video and payment APIs were implemented. However, there had been no progress on the frontend.I adopted the entire architecture and philosophy from "new-jac-city" project which primarily revolves around functional TypeScript, semantic HTML, modern CSS, and the Jamstack approach. Over the course of four months, I created the essential components for the video page and developed it further, allowing users to log in, purchase and watch videos, effectively achieving the company's alpha goal for the frontend.By the end of this work, I recruited and trained another frontend developer, engaged in discussions and collaborated with both the backend and product teams, utilizing visualizations of key user journeys to facilitate consensus within the company, designed the architecture, patterns, and practices for all three web apps, built a components library, developed a video e-commerce web app with five pages and four user journeys, and initiated an admin web app.Our primary focus, the video web app, received the top rating on Snyk, demonstrating its strong security profile. It offers a responsive design that seamlessly adapts to desktops, tablets, and mobile phones. The app is compatible with popular browsers like Chrome, Firefox, and Safari. Efforts were made to ensure accessibility, and it benefits from server-side rendering for improved performance and search engine optimization. The server-side rendering experienced peak concurrency exceeding 1,000 requests per second.Despite the challenges of my first job in a new country and culture, this greenfield project offered invaluable architectural design opportunities.

XDHT, a data provider since 2004, served 10 commercial banks before my tenure. Since 2013, the big data trend brought a tenfold increase in competitors who offer cheaper data alternatives. XDHT charges clients yearly, and its internet data collection grows 1.5 times annually, leading to increased manual data processing needs. The IT infrastructure was developed by an outsourcing company before 2009, and it has been maintained by two colleagues since then.Initially, my work centered around these aspects:1. Expand the sales team to 3 with higher commissions.2. Upgrade the interface for customer communication.3. Search for a technical partner.4. Lead the development team and facilitate the transition of this team from an operational mode to a development focus.5. Appoint a new leader for the analytics team and collaborate on the development of department metrics.6. Strive to secure additional support in board meetings.In the first two years, I achieved all the points except for #3. This drove me toward a technical role.In the third year, sales reached a historic high, increasing by 16% over three years. However, I noticed a growing gap with competitors as our customer churn rate kept rising and continued to decline from the fourth year onwards. Internet companies with significantly larger scales have entered the scene, and we eventually lost our market position.Over seven years, I navigated growth and challenges, served 15 clients, doubled average employee compensation, and maintained financial stability. Until 2023, after my departure, XDHT retained 8 employees to serve its remaining clients.

As a tech lead at XDHT, our main challenge was the IT infrastructure, initially developed by an outsourcing company before 2009 and currently maintained by two colleagues. My responsibilities centered around the following areas:* Leveraging external consultants and recruiting new talent to transition the department from a maintenance mode to a development-focused one.* Prioritize tasks within a limited budget.* Leading the development of new data sources, automation algorithms, and the UI.* Streamline maintenance tasks and establish metrics.I also got my hands dirty by directly participating in the development, especially in the latter part, where due to budget constraints, I became the company's main developer.

I was promoted to the position of manager at Huawei after one and a half years of joining the company. This role presented me with two major challenges that would define my journey.Challenge 1: Metrics EnhancementMy initial task was to improve Huawei's departmental assessment metrics for patent value grading and patent categorization. I incorporated expert reviews and real-time data into the process, enhancing the flow and enabling dynamic predictions of patent value. I also promoted the adoption of this system within the R&D department.Challenge 2: Automation for LitigationI was tasked with optimizing the evidence processing workflow in litigation. To address this challenge, I leveraged technology, implementing techniques such as full-text indexing, OCR (Optical Character Recognition), and Matlab programming to streamline and expedite data processing. This innovative approach significantly improved efficiency and accuracy.These challenges at Huawei not only showcased my commitment to innovation and process improvement but also shaped my career in technology and data-driven decision-making.

I have developed a GPS signal simulator using MATLAB capable of generating intermediate-frequency GPS signals after downconversion. The signal comprises simulated satellite ephemeris data, Coarse Acquisition (C/A) code, and intermediate-frequency carrier, with the option to incorporate both broadband and narrowband white noise into the signal.The simulator was utilized by another team for testing purposes.
