About Nathan Burns
Found my passion for Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) 4 years ago and have not looked back. Completed all of my supervised fieldwork under a BCBA-D as a behavioral specialist at The GEM Center in Parker, Colorado. While working there I completed my Masters of Special Education Program at ASU with an emphasis on ABA. Since then I have passed my BCBA exam and have been working as a BCBA at Evoke Behavioral Health for almost 2 years. Here I have found my passion for working with Early Intervention clients and plan on continuing to work as a BCBA with Early Intervention clients.

Registered Behavior Technician (Rbt)
Worked under a BCBA-D providing 1-1 therapy daily with an array of different learners in a private school setting. Worked along my supervisor to develop appropriate programming for learners based on assessment results. Independently ran different assessment tools with learners such as PEAK, ABLLS, and VB-MAPP. Designed parent training protocol and ran bi-weekly training sessions. Trained new RBTs while collecting IOA and evaluating performance with my supervisor. Managed groups of RBTs and provided oversight and supervision for implementing programs. Developed new hire training protocols and trainings on various curricula/interventions used. Administered medication to all learners throughout the day at appropriate times.
Registered Behavior Technician (Rbt)
Provided 1-on-1 direct behavioral therapy with a wide variety of clients ranging from nonverbal early learners to high functioning teens on the spectrum. Worked with children in their schools as well as in their homes. Collaborated with supervisors and other RBTs on the case daily to ensure the client was receiving the best possible therapy and to remain consistent on their treatment goals, BIPs, etc.Organized relevant trial and data sheets and making a plan for the session, implementing multiple trials as per supervisor instructions, remaining fun and reinforcing and conducting frequent preference assessments between trails, collecting data using partial interval recording, response rate and frequency, latency, and graphing accordingly, as well as teaching using NATs and DTT. Acquired many reinforcing stimuli to bring with me to clients, attending case meetings with parents and supervisors to clarify current treatment goals, as well as always promptly following up with supervisors and other RBTs on the case with any questions or areas for clarification.
Registered Behavior Technician (Rbt)
Took everything I had learned at the Tennyson Center and learned to apply the scientific approach of Applied Behavior Analysis to the behavior of those with autism. Completed 40 hour RBT training along with 8 stage field training and passed RBT exam. Under close supervision, became familiar with all essential RBT techniques and applied them to a wide array of clients
Summer Camp Counselor
I was a counselor for groups of 10 - 16 campers who came to Woodward at Copper Mountain to engage in their favorite action sports (skateboard, snowboard, etc.) Camp sessions were overnight and a week long. Responsibilities included supporting homesick children, being the first point of contact for the children when they had a problem, maintaining contact with parents, engaging campers who were not as excited as some others, enforcing camp rules, being friends with the children and hanging out with them while still being professional and enforcing rules when necessary, reporting daily to my supervisor with problems and things that were going well, and always having an amazing attitude!
Youth Treatment Counselor
Some responsibilities I have as a youth treatment counselor at the Tennyson Center include co-teaching lessons, building safe trusting relationships with the children and learning individuals’ needs and interventions. It also includes running fun weekly therapeutic groups, planning activities, as well as creating and modifying ICMP’s (Individual Crisis Management Plans) for each student. I am also responsible for working night and morning shifts in residential cottages assisting children cope and learn life skills, as well as aiding with bedtime and morning routines. I prepare children for off campus field trips by writing social stories specific to where the group is going, and transport children and staff in a 16-passenger van on field trips. I also create and implement countless individualized interventions for children on the autism spectrum as well as for children with a history of abuse and neglect. I have been responsible for providing documentation, maintaining weekly contact with parents, and building rapport with students and families. I was recognized as staff of the month numerous times by colleagues for hard work and dedication.
Peer Mentor
Volunteered as a mentor for an elementary school child who I met with for one school year, two hours per week. My mentee was a 7-year-old, second grade boy from a low-income single parent household. This helped me learn how to patiently work with kids in a school setting. I provided a positive role model for him as well as helped with homework, was available to actively listen, and helped my mentee achieve his goal of getting off his behavior chart.
Day Camp Supervisor
Planned daily activities for 20+ children ages 2 - 7 in a summer day camp setting. Planned snacks, organized activities, engaged with children, maintained contact with parents, supervised other staff members, and had a lot of fun!
