Undergraduate Researcher

Bowling Green, Ky

- Past research "Elevation and Mesoscale Temperature Variations" with Dr. Rezaul Mahmood.- Utilized the Kentucky Mesonet, which is a research-grade world class weather and climate observing network of 70 stations that provides quality assured 5 minute temperature, precipitation, solar radiation, relative humidity, dew point temperature, wind speed and direction data. With 68 of these stations distributed throughout the Commonwealth, Mesonet enables one to take note of localized variations in weather and climate as well.- Specialized in mesoscale temperature variations of several Mesonet stations within Kentucky by analyzing meteorological factors, such as precipitation, solar radiation, and wind speed from 2010 to 2014 by retrieving data from Mesonet database. Created line graphs, bar graphs, and scatter plots using Microsoft Excel in order to analyze and interpret trends in temperature and precipitation. - Presented poster crafted in PowerPoint titled "Elevation and Mesoscale Temperature Variations" at National Conference for Undergraduate Research in Memphis, TN on April 7, 2017. Findings: Mesonet weather station located at a lower elevation consistently had cooler minimum temperatures than nearby stations with a higher elevation. This is due to the placement of the Mesonet station. The lower elevation site sits in a valley and cold air pooling occurs. Minimum temperature differences between the two locations vary between 2-4°C over the course of several years. - Presented poster of Mesonet research at the national level in Asheville, NC from April 8, 2016 for the National Conference for Undergraduate Research. Most recent presentation, April 6, 2018 at NCUR in Oklahoma City, OK.
