Designed an end to end new ambulatory clinical documentation solution for Enterprise EHR and Sunrise SCM and led a development team towards its implementation. Created a new Observation model plus discrete data and free-text rendering engine to replace Medcin capable of both pre and post clinical coordination. Observations were tied to a common terminology platform that utilized IMO for problems and procedures, references terminologies from SNOMED and LOINC, and classification terminologies from CPT, ICDs, and HCPCS. The solution consisted of HTML/JS, Silverlight/WPF, WCF Services using .Net 4.5 & EF 5, WIX for the installation and SQL 2012. Owned and administered both TFS 2010 and then TFS 2012 with custom build definitions/tasks, Code Analysis and StyleCop integration, and Check-in policies for automated unit testing and code coverage all deployed in a Virtual Server environment.Lead a group of developers and architects to build out and convert a pre-released cross product (worked both with Enterprise and Pro EHRs) native iOS iPad application to Windows C# & XAML.

Designed, developed and led, common cross product initiatives including a UI framework, a common Clinical Decision Support system, internal open source guidelines, identity management, and internal interfaces for third party extensibility. Leveraged an existing product codebase to form the basis of a common composite UI Framework based on Microsoft Prism. Created a development SDK and installation for the common framework, and gave company-wide presentations on its use. After working closely across organizational groups, 5 separate products adopted the common UI Framework. This framework has since become the go forward solution for all future Allscripts development.

Enterprise EHR Development Manager with ownership for a major product feature set. Responsible for the delivery (scope definition, budget, resource allocation and planning, construction, testing, release management, and servicing) of that feature set on schedule with high quality. Management of a cross discipline distributed group of roughly 30 developers, QA engineers and business analyst’s. A few deliverables during this time include CDA Export/Import with clinical item reconciliation, as well as a major refactoring initiative to increase the performance and stability of the v11 Noting capabilities. Helped the organization convert from Visual Source Safe to IBM ClearCase and then on to TFS.Spearheaded, developed and drove internal processes and architectural changes to increase the quality, stability, and maintainability of the legacy Enterprise product codebase. Examples include: introducing and driving code reviews, implementing Patterns such as MVC/MVVM, automated unit testing, static code analysis, Dependency Injection, thread safe client side development, feature crews/agile development, project monitoring and control, build and configuration management, SOA, source control branching, and security.

Architected a third party medical device plug-in framework and SDK that decoupled physical device access from the base product allowing the integration of devices independent of the product itself. The solution provided CCOW type functionality and utilized LOINC for data normalization. It also allowed base product communication for local device access through Citrix sessions.

Led a team of full time developers and contractors to test all aspects the next generation client application frameworks. Designed and implemented an in process UI Automation harness to execute automated WindowsFormsIntegration.dll test cases that spanned both Windows Forms and Windows Presentation Framework. Updated Windows Forms automated test drivers for Vista and User Account Control enabling our automated test bed of ~13000 Windows Forms tests to execute without modification when the UAC prompt was displayed.Designed and Prototyped infrastructure for automated Silverlight functional testing that leverages existing Visual Studio Team Test unit tests and can execute on both Mac & Windows. Developed automated stress testing infrastructure that kicked off and ran stress tests on remote lab machines, monitors for failures, capture user dumps for leaks, hangs or crashes, and automatically extract the faulting stack traces and logs a bug for offline analysis.
